Cross Keys Newbury — Restaurant in England

How was the Cross Keys you ask?.....in one word "Awesome" . First time back in the keys in years and this visit was based on a food recommendation. This recommendation did not disappoint! I had the special which was a Greek gyros with tzatziki and a side of pulled pork on chips, a taste sensation ensued Wish I'd taken a pic as it was delicious and great value for money! Our waitress was great and the quirkyness of the inside is well worth a visit on its own merit! I could sit for hrs in the toilet just reading the comic walls!! We were staying in Chequers, so we decided to try the cross keys for food and a drink. Then Young man behind the bar asked if we wanted food, or just drinks. I replied just drinks for now, but do you have a menus. He took our order for drinks, then said sit down and ,would bring it over to you. So we went and sat on the corner of the bar, at the First table. We waited, for our drinks, but the bar man went and served someone else at the other end of the bar, at that stage my wife, said he is serving someone else, the older barman, heard my wife's comments and went to speak to the other barman. Then he served us. That was our decision not to eat to.

Foul and unpleasant employee behind the bar. Took 15 minutes to get served for a drink. The sign on the pool table said free pool on a Thursday after 5, when I asked he said bluntly no. When we pushed this matter he said they haven't done that in a long time, we said there was a sign but was uninterested, and dismissive. we gave back the sign in protest, he snatched it off me and screwed it in a ball and chucked in on the floor. Haven't experience this kind of service before. It was like he didn't even want us near him. Can't tell you enough not to go to this...
