We were impressed with the Crown Hotel, the staff were friendly and attentive. We ate from the tapas menu which was very tasty. The calamari dish, when it first arrived, seemed small and poor value, however when we queried the portion size, the staff immediately offered to bring a new dish, which arrived promptly and was a far more generous offering. It tasted fantastic! We were a little puzzled with the bottles of Sarson's vinegar on each table, which seemed more in keeping with a basic cafe and not a good quality restaurant. Also, the menus are not well presented, they appear cheap and tacky. Some simple word processing, to match fonts and spacings would make a big difference to the overall impression. In conclusion, despite the minor issues, this was an excellent meal and good value. We will be back.

Amazing food and great service. Pub style dining with a flair for presentation. Great to go somewhere where you dont think "I could do better at home". Reasonable prices, super friendly and helpful staff UPDATE. Been back here numerous times and enjoyed every one of them as much as the first. This is place is now my yardstick which I use to compare anywhere else we go to.

Booked into The Crown Hotel as we had a wedding to go to nearby in Sandbanks. From looking over the website and photos of the room, we originally thought we were quite lucky to find such a nice hotel in close proximity on Bank Holiday Weekend. |The room from the website appeared modern and well kept which suited our purposes for getting ready and relaxing. ||On arrival however these high expectations which I must stress came from the website were quickly lowered to a point of disbelief at what we had arrived at and paid for. ||Guests are very much mislead on what to expect in terms of the standard of rooms, the layout as well as furnishings. ||Our room which we were provided was severely run down, borderline dilapidated. The window being propped open with a piece of wood, carpet worn out, two old bed which had seen their best days in 1971, as well as there being no space to move around in the room itself in order to get ready. ||Personally given it was a bank holiday I would not be overly concerned about the state of the room if this was the only option available. However like any purchase you as a customer want to at least feel as if you have made an informed decision, based on the information provided by the seller. Which in this instance you felt as though you had been completely mislead on the quality and high standard that you had been led to expect on arrival. The comparison being buying a car off the internet and expecting to pick up a jaguar because that is what the seller had described it as, and instead being sold a Nissan Micra. ||The only positive from the short stay was that on raising my concerns with the manager and requesting a full refund. He did in fact readily accept my points and agree. (I did in fact use the above analogy of the car as a why to describe the room) |Though on speaking with the manager I got the distinct impression this wasn't the first time a customer had complained with the state of the rooms, as he was quite swift in agreeing, refunding along with repeating the same words of; "I am not going to argue with you sir." Whereas if you think this was a first occasion, he would be more inclined to refuse my request on the grounds that my points were not accurate or correct. ||I must add to this that I later found out from speaking with a member of the staff before I left the building that the photos on the website are of A ROOM within the hotel. So clearly they sort to advertise their 'model room' to entice customers in with, with the hope that on arrival they will not complain at such a drop in quality and standards which they have led to be expecting. (Which as I say above is why I think the manager was so quick to agree to full refund. As they must have this question raised regularly) ||Finally my advice would be to anyone else visiting Poole in the future, to search as much as you can for alternate accommodation. This hotel is best suited as a last resort if you really are struggling or just need a night to get you're head down. If you are looking to stay somewhere with a bit of comfort, and more importantly a hotel which starts off with a bit of open honesty on what it has to offer, there are plenty more hotels in Poole. |(We found an alternative for the same price within...

After having a meal which we wasn't at all happy with we let our waiter, "the owner apparently" know about our bad experience with the food we ordered to which she replied. "I'LL TAKE IT OFF THE BILL!!!!" And snatched the bill off the table and marched off mumbling to herself, her reaction left us speechless. After several minutes went by the bill was returned to the table by a different member of staff who apologised for the inconvenience. As we were staying at the hotel we thought we would have been treat with a bit more manners. A day goes by and we receive a envelope under the door which when opened said could we could go and see "Martin" so my fiancee went to see him as requested. To which she was told she had damaged his "repuatation" by leaving a bad review on trip advisor. And was also questioned on what out buisness was called, which was very odd and none of his buisness. I honestly don't know how this place is ranked this high on trip advisor. All the bad reviews say the same. Awful manners and appalling food. The people who eat here clearly don't know what good food and good manners is. This place only sells glorified pub grub. The radiator didnt work in our room. We wasnt told it was a communal shower and toilet until we arrvied, the bedding wasnt changed daily and in our whole weeks stay. We left our used towels on the floor every morning to come back to the same towles folded up on the end of the bed! Yes no clean towels. This list goes on, chances are it was done out of spite. We booked to stay here for 2 weeks. We left a week early and went to stay elsewhere. Due to not being made to feel welcome and appalling service. Do your self a favour and stay or...
