Honestly, this was a strange experience. To give some context, myself and my friend are fairly petite girls who were looking to have a bit of a cheat day, but not go too crazy as we’re trying to diet! We quickly realised that this place does not seem to specialise in vegetarian dishes, and we are both veggies. So we ordered a few popadoms, a few side dishes and some naan. The waiter (who I think may have been the co-owner or something) said ‘is that all?!’ At first I thought he was joking but he said it a few times. We told him we’re not going too wild with our order as we are dieting, he just pulled a face. We asked him if it’s ok that we placed a small order. And he just mumbled something and walked off. His demeanour and the way he questioned the order was incredibly rude and belittling.

When the bill came, he didn’t make any eye contact with us or ask how our food was. My friend took her bank card out to pay and he was trying to grab it off her, rather than allowing her to tap this on the card hold reader. He tried grabbing it from her twice. I don’t think that was very professional and saw this as an invasion of personal space. We said thank you to him when we paid and he just mumbled and walked off.

We left the restaurant feeling embarrassed, although we should have no reason to feel that way, nor should you feel that way after walking away from a restaurant. I feel like the waiter thought, ‘these two aren’t even worth us using our microwave’, just because we weren’t big spenders. But if they want to apply a minimum spend, they should state that. Otherwise what difference does it make if a customer spends 30p or £30? He took it too personally that we didn’t order the entire menu.

Anyway onto the food. The saag aloo was ok. I enjoyed it but it needed more spice and seasoning for me. We also ordered bindhi bhaji. Honestly this was terrible. It tasted like it had been boiled and mixed together with some onions. There was no flavour (see evidence of dry bindhi attached). We couldn’t finish this but appreciate there are people who don’t get to eat food at all and so we hate throwing food away. So we took it back with us in a take out container and will add our own seasoning to this.

The other waiters were lovely and the service other than the one guy was good!

Food is not for me and we won’t be returning but at least we tried...

Just got back from our first visit to Deshi Spice in Bedford. When I booked, I was asked if there were any special requests and as we were celebrating an anniversary, we stated this. To our amazement, when we arrived, we had balloons and banners at our table! Our food arrived quite promptly, I had the prawns with coconut and red paste, and it was delicious! The staff on duty, Moses and Aka were very attentive and friendly. When we asked for the bill, it arrived with an anniversary card and a bunch of roses! I have stayed in top hotels in Ireland during anniversaries, which were not even acknowledged!... I searched trip advisor and chose this restaurant due to their fantastic reviews, and I can safely say, they are right! I never take the time to write reviews on restaurants as it takes a lot to impress me .But, tonight, it has to be said, they couldn’t have done more to impress! I shall definitely return soon! Fantastic food and service......quite busy and buzzing for a Monday night, but...

First time I've been to this restaurant. I have been missing out! Some menu items are that little bit different to many other Indian/Asian restaurants and a real treat. All the old favourites are there too though. The quality of the food is great, nicely cooked and served hot. Definitely not one of your "lumps of meat and veg dropped into a curry sauce" restaurants The flavours in the dishes we had came through, and some great tastes of individual spices and ingredients were there in every mouthful. I had the Akbari Khana which I had never heard of before. It was chicken breast stuffed with minced lamb and served in a mushroom bhuna sauce. Hot and spicy yet full of various flavours. Moses and Jay in particular did an amazing job getting the food to us from the chef in co-ordinated time and whilst it was sizzling hot. Not easy with a party of twenty plus people! Great food, well cooked, nicely served and great chatty guys. ...

I had an exceptional dining experience at Deshi Spice Restaurant in Bedford. From the moment I stepped in, I was impressed by the well-appointed interior and spotless cleanliness, which set the tone for a delightful meal. The food was a highlight, showcasing genuine and authentic Indian and Bangladeshi flavors that truly hit the mark. Each dish was bursting with rich, well-balanced spices, and the portion sizes were just right—offering fantastic value for money. Saleh and his team delivered outstanding service, combining promptness with a deep knowledge of the menu. Their passion for their restaurant and their commitment to delivering high-quality food and service was evident throughout the evening. If you're looking for a place that offers delicious, authentic cuisine with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, Deshi Spice is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be returning soon.

Asked for split payment from the beginning and ended up racially profiling group of 6 and treated us like thieves. They took full payment before even serving us which is unheard of even after showing them a corporate card with British pounds inside. Very bad service till the last moment where they tried to stop us from leaving after paying because one guy was washing his hands so he was last to pay. (so silly) At the end they gave us a piece of chocolate and we gave it to the homeless.
