I ordered the Kottu Rotty Beef and was extremely disappointed. The dish had multiple pieces of eggshells mixed in — I only noticed when I started crunching them while eating. This is not only careless but highly unethical.
Food safety and hygiene should be a basic standard, especially when serving meat dishes. This experience was unpleasant and concerning. I urge the team at Pepper Ceylon to seriously address quality control in their kitchen.
Not ordering again unless I see clear improvements.
Since you made an awful reply, here is my reply..
I’m honestly shocked by your response. You expect me to reconsider my 1-star review after serving food with eggshells in it? That’s a serious food safety hazard under UK food law. In fact, Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs, enforced in the UK by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), clearly requires food to be prepared and served in a way that avoids contamination. Finding sharp fragments like eggshells, which can cause physical injury, is a clear violation of that.
You claim to maintain "the highest standards" and have a 5-star hygiene rating — then how did eggshells end up in my food? This isn’t a minor slip; it’s a fundamental failure in quality control and kitchen oversight.
And no — you don’t get to tell me what to post or suggest I change my review. I wrote it based on what you served me. I even have photos of the eggshells in your Kottu Roti — so don’t try to brush this under the carpet or make it look like a misunderstanding.
Instead of offering a free meal, maybe focus on fixing your kitchen practices. This was a very bad experience, and frankly, I wouldn’t trust...
Read moreAfter rave reviews from a foodie friend I tried Biryano / Pepper Ceylon for the first time on Friday and I wasn't disappointed. The service was very friendly and took time to explain the different dishes to ensure I enjoyed the food and understood my no / low carb requirements. It was clear from the turnover of clear from the turnover of Srilankan diners commenting on the authenticity of the food that this is the real deal. The staff happily cooked my dish fresh to ensure the spice wasn't too hot for me which as a bit of a lightweight I appreciated. I really need to try to train my pallet to cope with spicier foods and I look forward to trying many more dishes to help me, oh and they have a fantastic fresh mango Lassi to cool...
Read moreI visited Biryano yesterday and had the pleasure of trying their dosa and hoppers. Both dishes exceeded my expectations and offered a delightful taste of Sri Lankan cuisine. The dosa was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, served with a variety of flavourful chutneys and sambar. It was well-prepared. The hoppers were equally impressive — light, airy, and slightly crispy at the edges with a soft center. The service at Biryano was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was clean and welcoming. Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience, and I would highly recommend Biryano to anyone looking to enjoy quality South Indian or Sri...
