Drakes Fish & Chips Takeaway & Restaurant — Restaurant in England

As a local guy who has lived in Torbay all of his life, I though for lunch I would have a portion of chips, just had my hair cut and my car was parked outside of Drakes Fish & Chips Takeaway & Restaurant so thought i'd pop in. I was greeted by a nice young lady who took my order , and I was then told a fresh batch of chips were being cooked, so proceeded to wait around 10 mins which is fine, however once I was handed my portion of chips I went to my car and thought i'd eat them there, however upon opening the chips you could clearly see how under cooked they were, very pale yellow chips, needless to say I binned them straight away, luckily the only saving factor was the portion of chips only cost £2.70, but £2.70 wasted.

Save your money and go somewhere else that actually takes pride in the food they serve, how this place has won awards begs belief, you can be sure Drake's hasn't won any awards recently. Very...

Ordered the only vegetarian option - a burger and some chips. It was good, not very greasy, basically covers my expectations of what an average fish and chips shop should offer. They are trying to compete with the other award winning fish and chips shop nearby (I wont mention names here, so it doesn't look like I'm plugging them), but in my opinion they should be trying to compete with the kebab shop that is opposite on the same street as their's was the best chips of the three I tried. The prices here are reasonable - just remember to bring a bag with you if you're making a large order, because otherwise they'll charge you for the bag. Staff are fairly friendly. Sunday evening after a few hours at the beach we decided to stop off for fish n chips on the way home. The time was approx 6.55pm, as they were not due to close until 7.45pm we didn't anticipate any problems. However, on arrival, there were several people hanging around outside, so we knew we might be in for a bit of a wait. Quite the opposite, we were told that they weren't taking anymore orders!!! Just simply said, all our chips are allocated! There was no apology, no explanation, nothing. This chippy is on our doorstep, we are loyal local patrons, but will never use this place again.
