We went for lunch at the time we had booked only to find no one there behind the till. Luckily the cook came & served us! Eventually a 'manager' appeared with the till drawer- only 10-12 mins after opening time! They had a wedding booked for 3 hours later and quite honestly should NOT have taken lunch bookings if they were, what appeared to us so disorganised. The place had no atmosphere and we were given a table directly outside the ladies loo - nit nice when you're eating.
Onto the food offerings, We saw their advert for 2 people to have lunch for a discounted price from their lunchtime menu. The pictures shown are NOT what you actually get - very very misleading!! One of us had a burger & chips - not included in the offer - which was I believe very nice. 3 of us had a breakfast which wasn't so nice, ordered from the lunch menu. Apparently for the offer you DO NOT get what's shown on the menu, you get 1 of each, but not all. The toast was totally cold when it got to us & served with a small dish of revolting margarine!
So, all in all a totally misleading advertising campaign, compounded by poor service and attitude and 2 of us couldn't eat the breakfast as it wasn't nice.
My advice, don't open the pub when you've got a wedding if you can't service customers with a good attitude, pleasant disposition, smile! And, for goodness sake make the ads truly reflect...
Read moreThe Divers Arms is under new management and we thought we would give it a try whilst we were in Babbacombe for a few days. It is ideally located at the end of the downs and being dog friendly was just the ticket. It has a garden for the dog and great views over the sea.
Monday night they had an open mike evening, it was fantastic, a very eclectic mix of bands and vocalists. Everyone had a great time, the atmosphere was fantastic, the staff very welcoming and we will definitely come again.
We really did go back the next night, as Tuesday night is quiz night. This isn’t something we would normally do, but hey ho we were here and had enjoyed the previous night. It was great, six rounds of questions and we came first in the second round and won £10, result, next round is on Mike, the landlord.
We are going back on Wednesday night as well to watch Spurs play, I know, someone has to support them. The pub has Sky and TNT so plenty of quality live sports, even Spurs, come on you Coys.
The kitchen isn’t open yet. Mike says it will be another couple of weeks for that, however, he was happy for us to bring in our own fish and chips, yum, yum. We will definitely be back to try the food next month when the...

Staff were friendly and helpful, the food and drinks were tasty, and the musical accompaniment contained a number of personal singalong favourites. (Yes, I sang along.)
The pub's a regular haunt of visiting celebraties performing at Babbicombe theatre, and well-known on the circuit as the 'Diverse Alarums' (Shakespearean joke). It's interior is very tastefully decorated - the Diver motif and nautical theme is present, but not overplayed.
It's garden contains a number of tables, some with umbrellas, but be aware that some may be pre-booked and reserved by people who don't bother to show-up. There is also a wooden fort/climbing frame & slide for the kiddies/childish adults to enjoy. (Yes, I went on the slide.)
My only criticism would be that the door to the Gents is narrower than standard, leading to an equally narrow corridor. Attempting to micturate whilst wearing a full Victorian diving costume is hard enough at the best of times without such space...
