Visited yesterday 03/01/25 staff were lovely and welcoming, great atmosphere and delicious food. As always. However on this occasion with visited with my sister in law who has allergies and doesnât speak English which always makes ordering in restaurants difficult and time consuming but the manager and the Barman working this shift were incredibly patient and helpful. They managed to find something for each course to suit her allergens even finding a dessert that wasnât on the main menu offered so that she could have one. Despite it being busy as we arrived towards the end of the lunch rush they didnât make us feel like we were being a pain, and if any issues arose we surely felt that they were quickly and properly dealt with. Thanks for making our trip to York extra special, my sister in law doesnât eat in restaurants back home as they do not take her allergies seriously and she doesnât feel comfortable but this is the first time she has eaten a three course meal in a restaurant and felt safe and happy to do so. We really appreciate it and will continue to visit when we are in York.
If your after a typical, old world charm pub with great food, a good selection of beers, great staff and a warm fire close to the shambles and the minster then do give...
Read moreFriday 24th January 2020. My Wife and I were having a short break staying in York as part of my Birthday Celebrations. We left our Hotel looking for somewhere to have an evening meal. After looking at all the places to eat we stumbled across Duke of York, It was a busy pub.I asked the barman if they had a table for two. He came from behind the bar and took us upstairs to a cosy table. We took advantage of the Friday night Special, two steaks and a bottle of wine for £35.00, not really knowing what to expect. Well I can honestly say that It was one of the best pub meals we have had. The steak was cooked to perfection! The chips were proper chunky homemade tasty chips. And the wine was great. We also had a dessert for an extra £5.95 each, which was sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream which was delicious. Overall the food, venue, staff and value for money was fantastic. I recommend that anyone looking for a great dining out experience for just under £50.00 this place will take some beating. We will definitely...
Read moreMy friend asked for the gluten free menu, and the waitress got visibly frustrated looking for it, and it took the staff 10min to find it. Then she waited 45 minutes for her bowl of chips.
I asked for the seabass and a pint of Guinness and got charged ÂŁ10.50. I then asked if I got charged for the seabass and the waitress said I ordered the onion rings, and I said no that was my friend before me. After being left at the bar for a few minutes and the waitress walking off and having a moment, I said I'd just take the onion rings.
My other friend ordered a burrata, and then 15min later a worker came to say the last one was dropped on the floor so they didn't have. Then her onion rings were oily, underdone and the batter was raw. Another friend chucked up after eating his onion rings, which were too oiley - he was spewin'.
Friend's said female bathroom has a broken seat, and just one working stall.
It's like I'm in Shambles.
