All the comments about moody, inattentive staff are spot on. I’ve been here a couple times, but after another rude, hostile experience with the incompetent staff, not again. You’re made to feel like a nuisance for even being there. The food is so sub par, especially as it is not cheap at all. £12 for the chicken burger and chips I’ve shown here. The frozen tasteless chicken burger was comedically small (photo doesn’t even do justice) and as for the sorry uncooked onion, soggy lettuce, and tasteless mayo, it completes an all round extremely disappointing burger. My mum’s beef burger (also £12) was equally frozen and rubbish quality. The chips were bland and frozen as well. I paid extra on top of the £12 to have rosemary fries, but the pictures show the lack of that also. It seems the lack of care is shared between front and back of house. You can get the exact same thing (in my opinion better) down the road at one of the food vans for half the price. Save your money, and joy, and go elsewhere. There’s many great food places within walking distance. Just don’t bother!

Aroma / Nose: 7 The espresso wasn’t the best. The crema was thin and faded quickly, and the taste was a bit watery. But the lovely back terrace definitely added to the overall experience.

Myself and my partner stopped in here before visiting the Booth museum. A lovely little cafe overlooking Hove Green. I ordered a simple brownie and Dr Pepper and both were delicious and reasonably priced. However, the meals going past us as we sat down looked absolutely amazing. My partner ordered a mocha and when it arrived, the waitress put down an Americano instead. This mistake was quickly rectified and she was given a mocha, however she said that she has had much nicer Mocha's at other cafes.

This is a very nice place at a great location which should get four to five stars except .... the staff. OMG! They are amazingly bad. You walk in and they can barely bother to turn to look up from their phones or stop their chat. The face expressions are just dripping disdain that people come in and order food and drink. The customers are just a nuisance standing between them and the end of their work day. The last time I walked in - and this is what finally provoked this revue after many unpleasant experiences in there - the girl at the counter kept her back turned to me. She had just made herself a nice chai latte and was chatting with somebody in the kitchen. She could not be asked to stop chatting and to take an order. I am sorry for the owner, who is a very nice and very forthcoming guy, but with that staff I will be making my way further down the road to other...

Nice to see Dyke Road Cafe back open. Internal refurbishment is a big improvement! No-nonsense menu, tasty with good coffee. The staff are very attentive to your needs. The cafe itself has one of THE BEST locations in the city. It's beautiful sitting out in the sun enjoying the view. Get the seating back on the terrace, maybe some terrace plants.... Even in winter customers would enjoy this. Maybe put up some photos in the cafe of the park in days gone by? Or just photos of the incredible view? just to give the cafe a slightly cooler vibe. Overall a great...
