As we got to the entrance door could hear raised voices from within with colourful language being used. That should have been our cue to not enter but we did. Inside it was reminiscent of the bar from star wars. There was an ongoing dispute with numerous threats being shouted from one side of the place to another. The landlady was referee in the middle and despite her diminutive size managed to defuse the situation by using her own threats and colourful language. This is clearly a locals pub and if your not local you will feel majorly uncomfortable. The back room looked like it was the local youth centre, not sure how much checking of ages goes on. What a cracking town pub this is. Since Steve and his team took over just under a year ago joined with an extensive refurb the place has just gone from strength to strength. Whether it’s live sport, karaoke, live music, disco night or just a quiet family drink there’s rarely a week that passes where the George fails to deliver. This place is great.i think it has just been updated furnishings wise and looks good for it. Still has sports on which is great and the bar staff are wonderful, making the reason for staying for the evening rather than moving on. The landlady however is another matter.
