Myself, & husband, purposely visited this Chocolate Shop, after reading a leaflet about the shop, whilst on holiday in the Lake District, in September 2024. We were left bitterly disappointed, as the Cafe was closed, and my husband decided to buy a souvenir bar of chocolate, of the Chocolate Shop, thinking it had been made by hand, on site. We later discovered, on the reverse of the chocolate wrapper, the bar had been made miles away, which to us was a complete con. The man serving behind the counter was a right grumpy old git as well, when my husband went to pay, he grumbled to my husband about his bank card not being put in the card machine properly, he didn't offer any help, or advised my husband about the different range of chocolates at all, & he wasn't one bit friendly! We visited Grange over Sands where there is another Chocolate Shop, it was a complete contrast...there was a fantastic, much, much, bigger selection of chocolates, alot cheaper, plus a cafe, & the man behind the till was friendly, helpful, & a complete delight. A complete contrast, to the shop in Kendal! In my opinion, I wouldn't bother visiting the Chocolate Shop in Kendal, it's over rated, but the Chocolate Shop in Grange...
Read moreAVOID AT ALL COST- as a food critic I wouldn’t recommend going to this chocolate house if I was you I’m regretting ever setting foot over the door in the first place, from the moment I stepped foot in the shop the guy behind the counter was rude and was more interested in my assistance dog than in my order in which he ended up leaving half of my order out an getting the other half wrong. Was a waste of my time an money coming in this shop, when I complained an asked for it to be sorted out I got a ‘nothing I can do about it’ when there clearly was two options refund or sending the rest of my correct order out considering they do delivery. I think that guy behind the counter needs to be re trained in people skills and customer service. Not only that but he packed all of my order in one bag which ended up all melting into one. Such a shame it’s gone down hill. And ignoring constructive criticism isn’t right either. So don’t bother emailing in if you have a problem. If I could give no stars I would have done because it doesn’t...
Read moreThis is a gorgeous little chocolate shop and cafe just off the main shopping street in Kendal. The shop is right next door to the cafe but is connected and can be accessed by a set of stairs, although the are very narrow and low.
The staff are great and very friendly and decoration and seating (in the café) are very traditional looking and in keeping with the stone built building. There is a nice touch in the form of a sign showing a brief history of chocolate production.
The food smelled great, but the draw for me was the the huge range of hot chocolate drinks available. I had the Highway man (salted caramel) and with a massive blob of whipped cream was absolutely delicious. My partner ordered a Merry Cherry and after nabbing a taste I was again Impressed. Another point, these hot chocolates were only £2.50 each! Amazing price for what they are.
Overall, very...
