Hippo’s Café — Restaurant in England

Stopped for a sandwich and drink, cafe was quite busy and I felt girls were brisk, when speaking to customers We ordered drinks, a sandwich and toasted tea cake, milkshake was ordered with no cream but came with cream, I mentioned this and they did offer to change it, but I didn’t want it wasted so had the milkshake with cream, toasted tea cake came already buttered, which we found odd as they didn’t ask, how much butter was required My daughter who has mild disabilities needed the toilet, I asked where it was and was told where to go, then another worker said you can’t use the toilet, it’s out of action, which was a surprise to the other worker, I asked how long it would be out of action and was told 20 minutes, no other explanation was given, they didn’t say it was broken or being cleaned, so given the cafe was open, there should be toilet facilities available. I had to take my daughter to the church toilet (few minutes walk away) and then return to our drinks / food - I don’t feel this is acceptable, had the staff been more friendly, it may not have seemed so bad, I must add, the girl who took our original order,...

Shocking filthy toilet accessed through an unprofessional kitchen This is the second time I've eaten at Hippo Cafe. But the first time that I've used the toilet. I wish I hadnt... It was a hell of a shock. The food was good, and the staff were ok... However the toilet was disgraceful. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to a filthy outside toilet. which resembled a Workman's outside lav of the 70s. What's worse is it was filthy dirty, not only the floor, but also, the walls. There was a dirty rusty bin, the door was a l broken with holes big enough to Look through. I didn’t want to touch anything which is a real worry when you consider that the staff that are serving your food are using this toilet which is filthy dirty, The kitchen did not look professional more like a greasy spoon. I came back to my table literally with my mouth open with shock. What you see in the walk to the toilet out the back is totally mismatched to the image you see at the front. If I had not used the toilet, I most definitely would’ve gone back again, but after going out the back there is no way I’d ever...

Twice I have been here with my wife. Twice we've asked to eat in, placed our order, and waited at our table. Twice we have been brought our takeaway bag...

At least last time they let us eat it at our table with the disposable cutlery. This time we were chased out and told it's a different price to eat in. A price I would happily have paid if the food was brought to me on a plate.

You made a mistake, but you make your customers pay for it? Once was bad enough, but twice has earned you this review. I will be telling others about this.

Edit: Arrived home to find my drink was missing from the order. I phoned in and waited 15 minutes to be told they needed the card I paid with in order to refund me. I used mobile tap and pay so I don't have access to the card number as Google uses a virtual proxy card. I can only be refunded if I go back there...
