My friend and I visit Richmond regularly. We have visited La Piazza in the past and absolutely loved it. Fantastic atmosphere, welcoming professional staff and out of this world cuisine. That all changed today, Saturday 22nd April 2023. We decided to treat ourselves and have a nice meal, but as soon as the waiters received us, we got bad vibes. They were unhelpful, surly and aggressive. We ordered a pot of tea for two, but it only filled one and a half cups. When we asked for more tea, they slammed a second teapot on the table, sloshing tea all over. Things went from bad to worse when my friend discovered a sea bug in his seafood risotto. It made us feel physically sick. When we complained, the waiter was unhelpful and actually said that their seafood comes in ready prepared bags, so there might sometimes be bugs in there, and tried to argue that the slimy bits of jelly was top class octopus! Anyway, when my friend went to pay, four of the waiters crowded round him in an intimidating fashion. So not only are they serving up bugs, their customer service stinks and they try to intimidate their customers.

Partner and I thought this might be part of a franchise like the excellent La Piazza in Sheffield where we live due to branding similarities - the friendly manager said it wasn't. So, we decided to take a chance anyway and came away very satisfied. The restaurant had plenty of space and large windows to let the winter sun through in the afternoon. Staff were attentive and not pushy and service was quick in spite of the place being busy on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered a salad, fried potato skins and a Quattro Stagloni pizza (mushrooms, cotto ham, artichoke and black olives divided to represent the four seasons) to share plus coffee and a cola. The pizza was really very good .. yum yum! The salad was fine, nothing special but a good compliment to the pizza. The potato skins were super with the accompanying aoiloi and sweet chilli sauce dips. With two puddings (partner struggled to finish the excellent tiramisu - I bravely finished my generous and delicious banoffee pie) the total cost was £28.

This is my first 4⭐ review! And it has to be split 50/50 between the chef and the service! 5⭐ goes to the chef and main cook for the really tasty meals, however a 3⭐ goes to the service... Booked a table for two over the phone. The seat was mucked up with a some green object like a piece of rocket/arugula, table was sticky and there was no napkins provided either. Had to ask for the napkins twice, and they eventually arrived! The cutlery was flying from the service jiggling loudly in the cupboard or on the floor! It wouldn't be fair to give just a 3⭐ I hope this review brings the management attention just to change a few bits and a full 5⭐ experience can be given!

I booked a table for 6 people on saturday the 13th February i understand that this a busy time of year for restaurants but still should not explain the terrible service and horrendous food i was served.

I asked for the chicken for starters it came out looking like it was just hit by a bus the taste was bland and slightly undercooked need to understand the importance of salt and pepper for the correct seasoning.

When I got around to ordering the main course this is where it just where I completely losted it and wanted to walk out but I bit my tongue and stayed i ordered the lamb rack within two minutes of ordering the waitress comes back to me and say am sorry but the chef as just told me the lamb racks are pre-cooked and can't do this pink i was shocked considering they say they serve fresh food i then got asked if I would like this still i said no way and ordered the steak medallions rare.

When the mines finely arrived my steak had not been rested for enough time and just slapped on a plate with all the excess blood with the steak still swimming in it

I then sent it back and just asked for a fresh blow they took it away then with a wait of 8 minutes to change the plate the steak finely comes back to me to my surprise still wrong no seasoning at all and it well done not rare and looked liked it was run over by a lorry and reversed back over it.

I then see the chef come out of the kitchen to speak to the manager and see her look over point are table and say they don't no what there on about they should f* off how rude

To top it all off when you go to the bathroom you need to walk thought past a open kitchen so you can see into the kitchen. I had a quick glance was horrible what I say the kitchen was filthy chefs stood there with arms crossed giving customers dirty looks raw meat sat there on the side when it should be kept in a fridge at all times not on a blue board kitchen safety and kitchen hygiene needs to be managed and sorted.

I have to say as a very successful chef my advice here would to stay away from this restaurant before someone gets food poisoning

And stop using chopped parsley to sprinkle on every place it looks tacky

Management please sort this out before you end up being shut...

Called in for a pre-booked lunchtime meal - my wife, myself and our two young grandsons. Staff on reception were very courteous and professional and we were made to feel most welcome. We were given a table near the bi-fold doors looking out across the outside patio area to the street beyond. The restaurant itself is impressively clean with an open view into the kitchen / food prep area. We were given the drink and food menus. Again the staff were friendly, they even brought some paper and pencils to help keep the kids entertained while we waited for the food to arrive. We chose a selection of starters to share (potato skins & dips, garlic bread with cheese and garlic mushrooms), all of which were well presented and very tasty. The main course proved to be equally delicious (seafood pizza, pollo picante with veg and 2 childrens meals of home made chicken nuggets and chips). Following this we went for ice cream, coffee and 2 childrens portions of sticky toffee pudding). Throughout the dining experience staff checked on our satisfaction without being overly attentive. When the bill arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find the whole meal was covered under the "eat out to help out" discount scheme and came to a very affordable £30. Even without the discounted price the quality of food, general restaurant presentation, standard of service and staff approach to customer care would have made a full priced lunch a gem. To find a restaurant with quality food served by friendly staff at an affordable price is indeed (I feel) a most welcome experience in this day and age. We will return and would recommend others to try it too. Very...

I booked a table for 8 (5 plus 3 high chairs) a week in advance, confirmed booking 1 day before and rang up again 5 minutes before arrival to yet again confirm, ...and all was confirmed. This was a surprise 30th birthday meal and we had driven up from West Yorkshire for the occasion. When we got to the restaurant we were told that all highchairs had been given out, that they were going to the stockroom to get more... and after a 10 minute wait, 2 highchairs arrived, 1 broken, but no third chair to be seen... we were left for another 10 minutes before someone in the party had to then go and ask where the third highchair was... to be then told there wasn't one. In all that time we were left highchairless, not one person came to speak to us, or to offer drinks. Absolutely disgusting.

All in all, a diabolical service, greedy owners who care purely about lining their pockets rather than the quality of service to their customers. We got up to leave and not one member of staff spoke to us, or tried to reassure us, we were free to go and they couldn't care less as there was someone else waiting to fill the seats.

I will be contacting health and safety after being given a faulty highchair, which could have resulted in serious injury. I am extremely disappointed. We left with 3 upset babies, a hungry toddler and 4 angry adults. Never again will I step foot in this...
