Las Iguanas - Torquay — Restaurant in England

This was the worse restaurant experience I have ever encountered In my life. First off when we got there we were greeted by a girl who didn’t have a pen to write out our order and told us there were only 2 pens in the restaurant completely. We wanted to order mojitos but were told there was no mint. We then switched to strawberry Daiquiris and asked for a nachos starter to share between the 4 of us. The drinks come after around a 10 minute wait so fairly quick. I did not think much of the drink it wasn’t very nice. When ordering the mains I asked for the vegan option. I ordered the Ensalada Asada and my partner ordered the fillet steak churrasco skewers. The waitress come back to tell me they did not have any salad so I could not have what I originally wanted and asked if I wanted to have another look at the menu. She said to take my time and she would give me a few minutes while completely starting at me at the end of the table. I then asked for the vegan chilli con carne. She then come back again to tell me they did not have that either. Again I had to look at the menu I then asked for a bowl of rice and a side salad but was told they did not have any salad what so ever. We asked to see a manager as I felt I could not have what I wanted but I was told what I had to have instead. The manager come over and explained they have had trouble with their delivery and asked if I would like rice with some mushrooms. I agreed because It was very limited by this point. We then waited nearly an hour for what we thought out starter to show up but was presented with our mains. When asked about the starter the waitress and the manager did not have any order for it. We ordered another round of drinks but was very limited did not have wine or pints just bottles. No cutlery was put onto our table my partner had to get some from the table opposite. The meals were a shambles and where the night ended for us after everything already being awful. My partners rice was freezing cold when pointed out to the waitress who was nothing but apologetic taken back into the kitchen and brought back out 30 seconds later with another pile of rice on top of the freezing cold pile not even room temperature. The mushrooms with rice I received were extremely spicy and unexpected as I did not know it would have been that hot. The second round of drinks took 20 minuets just for 2 waters. After seeing another customer ask for water and get a bottle straight away to the table was a joke. In the end me and my partner left our meals as we were not satisfied what so ever. The manager took 50% off the bill after a lot of back and for asking another employee. It was just awful. I understand things happen with delivery but the rice being cold and masked with another pile of not even warm rice was the breaking point for the night. I asked for our meals to be taken back as we were not happy at all. We booked the table Saturday night in advance and it was to late to get another table anywhere else so this just ruined our night. We were not told upfront that we might face problems with the menu as they haven’t had a delivery in. When we got home we looked on the website at the menu and was shocked as the dishes were missing half the meal. It was just awful start to finish we will never...

We visited Las Iguanas yesterday after a family day out at the fair and crazy golf to celebrate my daughters’ birthdays (5 & 13). We arrived at 17:00 and were promptly seated, though no booking details were taken despite having reserved a table. The restaurant was quiet, with only a few tables occupied inside and out.

The service started well; the menus and our order were taken within five minutes, and the food arrived quickly, likely because we were one of the few orders at the time. The food was lovely, and we all finished our plates.

Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. It took over 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared, during which we weren’t asked if we wanted dessert menus or more drinks. We sat chatting for another 15 minutes before deciding to get up and pay at the entrance. Despite the “kids eat free with an adult meal” offer, the charge was added to our bill and only removed after we inquired about it. We also never received the children’s dessert that was meant to be included.

It’s a shame, as we would have happily stayed for desserts and another round of drinks, but due to the delays and our parking restrictions meant we had to leave. The food and initial service were excellent, with a little more attention towards the end of the meal, it could have been a perfect visit.

One final note: we noticed a sign at the bar offering a free shot in exchange for a 5-star review. While this might encourage positive feedback, it could also make the overall ratings a...

Wow how long does it take to get served in here. The answer 20 minutes and not because of the attentive nature of the staff, rather the insisitance by my wife that the waitress do so. There was also what I can only describe as a totally unacceptable wait for the mains, as I write this we have been sat here for 1 hr and 20 mins and my daughter is still waiting to eat something. We have asked and either the waitress does not care or just can't be bothered, as she says he'll check and then doesn't come back. Hence no stars for service. I'm sure when we get our food it will be lovely, but in all fairness I'm so hungry I could eat my own hand right now. Finally we will get the chance to find out as at 20:50 all the food finally arrived. The chilli was good, my wife's curry in her own words tasted of soap, my son's burger looked ok and my daughter's kids fish finger meal was overcooked and when we asked for churro's for her dessert they had run out. One out of 4, not great. Hence one star for food. The atmosphere was downbeat, probably brought on by the lengthy wait everyone had for their food. Also for a Brazilian/Mexican restaurant the 80's/90's music made it feel distinctly Un Brazilian/Mexican. Hence one star for atmosphere. Looking at the 5 star reviews I assume that a few of them are due to the sign as you enter offering a free shot if you "Give a 5 star review" and not because the experience was actually 5 stars.
