The nicest sandwiches we’ve ever had!
We have been on holiday in Devon and Cornwall and our last overnight stop before the long drive home to Durham was Taunton. Planning the journey home we decided we’d love to pick up a couple of deli sandwiches to stop and eat somewhere on our way home. I looked at lots of reviews and menus and Savoury Sandwiches looked perfect so before heading north, we drove into Taunton (where we’d also had the nicest Indian meal at Maliha and Taj the night before) and parked up and headed for our sandwiches.
We were spoiled for choice, they all sounded so nice but in the end we both went for The Spanish Chick on focaccia bread. This was roast chicken, chorizo, chorizo and paprika soft cheese, mayo, tomato and cucumber. This was made in front of us by a lovely lady who took such care making it and filled it up carefully with very generous (exactly the right amount!) of fillings. The gentleman who served us was lovely too and very helpful and friendly.
All the fillings in the chiller looked so fresh and delicious, I don’t think you could choose wrong here, I’m sure everything is beautiful.
We were given a loyalty card but unfortunately as we live 330 miles away I suspect we’ll never fill the stamps but I’m keeping it to remember the best ever sandwich!
We headed north on our long journey home and hoped to get half way before stopping for the sandwiches but they just looked and smelled so nice that we only managed to get about 80 miles before we gave in, stopped at a service station and got them out the bag!
What can I say?! They were presented perfectly and looked delicious. From the very first bite, there was no doubt this was the nicest sandwich I’ve ever had! The flavours were amazing, all worked so well together and just absolutely delicious in every way. So well made too and so filling with a perfect amount of every ingredient. I could eat it again now, and every day, but sadly at 330 miles away we just have to hope we make it back down on holiday next year and can return then. If we do, we will definitely stop in Taunton just to go to Savoury Sandwiches!
I hope they do really well here and everyone who is lucky enough to have this deliciousness on their doorstep goes every day - I would!
Thanks again Savoury Sandwiches, all the very...
Read moreI tried out this new sandwich bar on the opening day and I’m so glad I did. The sandwiches are next level — fresh, flavoursome, and generously filled. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and the bread is just perfect.
The staff were super friendly and made great recommendations. I tried the coronation chicken, and it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere is cozy and modern, perfect for a quick bite or a relaxed lunch. Whilst I was there (I ate in) there was a steady stream of customers grabbing takeaways, and all seemed delighted with their choices.
The Victoria sponge was spot on - a VERY large slice, generously filled with cream and jam - I couldn't fault it.
If you're a sandwich lover (or even if you're not!), this place is a must-visit. Can’t wait to come back and try the rest...
Read moreVery generously filled sandwiches - maybe even too much for lunch! The red velvet muffins looked twice the size as normal, and the homemade cake slices looked like huge wedges, but they seemed to have different muffins, cookies and pre-packaged cake slices in there the other times I’ve been. The sandwiches are freshly prepared (sliced white bread, brown, focaccia, baguette or gluten free) and they do a loyalty card now.
I think I’d rather have less and pay a bit less as they are a little pricey (£9 for Coronation chicken, £8.50 for Italian Chick and £7.50 for the egg mayo), and the amount of filling can make the sandwich a bit soggy/squish the thin bread flat.
I haven’t dropped any stars as they are a new independent business and it is probably just personal preference that I don’t like huge sandwiches. Try and decide...
