I visited Coopers for the first time today with daughter and my dog because I'd heard good things about this alternative coffee shop in Marlow.
What a massive disappointment.
When we first entered the cafe the resident dog, Cooper, who looks like a friendly black labrador on the website, was laying at the front of the cafe in the middle of the floor. Our little dog (very docile and always friendly) trotted over on his lead to say hello to the big dog only for the lab to snarl aggressively and bark loudly - a bit of a shock in a place that says it's dog friendly. Everyone in the cafe looked over too - clearly a bit shocked at the commotion.
One of the bar staff explained that unfortunately the big dog doesn't like little dogs so best to stay out of his way.
There was just one almost empty bowl of water near the big dog and when I asked if I could have a bowl of water for our dog the bar man told me that was the only bowl and it was used by all dogs.
We filled it with fresh water and took it to where we were directed to sit, about 10 feet from the big dog.
We kept our little dog completely away from Cooper while we ate our lunch, only for the staff to then bring the big dog over to the water bowl and once again he went for our dog - snarling, baring his teeth, barking very loudly - so much so they had to hold him back. I have never seen another dog so aggressively try to attack our dog. Ever.
This took place right beside my daughter, (who was holding our dog who we'd kept on his lead throughout) and she was understandably pretty shaken and distressed so we left immediately without finishing our drinks. No word of apology from any of the staff in the cafe.
I went back in and asked to talk to a manager and suggested they might want to have alternative water bowls for customers' dogs as Cooper was clearly very aggressive. She was totally unapologetic and denied he was an aggressive dog (although she'd just witnessed the second attack with the rest of the staff and customers) and said he was a really docile dog, always friendly. Clearly this is not the case.
We certainly won't be returning and I would be very concerned about anyone taking little children into this confined space with what is a potentially aggressive big dog who just is left to wander the place freely with no one looking after him.
As a footnote the food was massively overpriced - over £18 for a tiny coffee, 2 soft drinks, a sausage sandwich and two overdone poached eggs on a piece of toast.
Such a shame as we love to support local businesses and cafes and had been looking forward to this...

Our business ditched our Professional coffee machine due to daily cleaning and mediocre coffee, along with the expense of cups/coffee, and Coopers is so close. As I was leaving Coopers a few days ago I overheard a couple moaning about the price of a Cappuccino. It annoyed me so much I thought I would write this review just in case they ever see it: A large cappuccino costs £3-80. It is the best coffee I have experienced from anywhere, even in Italy. Let’s just breakdown the £3-80. Initial set-up/investment costs. Equipment, everything from the kitchen equipment to a hoover. Decoration. Rent and rates (I know exactly what these figures are) £000-00’s per year. Tables & chairs. Food & coffee stock Staff After all the above was arranged and paid for, then there is the ongoing expenditure. Bank charges, insurance, premises and liability, light & heat, point of sale terminals, accountancy fees & probably more I’m not aware of. Daily cleaning of all the cooking and beverage equipment, either by the staff or by a professional company. Reviews are about personal experiences and personally I think it is the best coffee, the food is great and the staff are all very attentive to the customer’s needs. I would wager that the profit made on the £3-80 is pence! If there were six-stars, Coopers would...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a wonderfully warm and high-quality café experience in Marlow, then Millar’s Eatery at Coopers Roastery is an absolute treat.
From the moment you walk in, you feel the combination of passion and hospitality. The coffee, roasted on-site, immediately stands out. Every cup I’ve had has been beautifully crafted, rich in flavour, and clearly made with care. Reviews repeatedly note how exceptional the coffee is.
But the excellence doesn’t stop with the coffee. The food is impressively top-notch: fresh, flavourful brunch and lunch items that complement the drinks perfectly. Coffee is outstanding… The food is amazing with my personal favourite, Shakshuka!!
Perhaps most charming of all are the staff. They are friendly, welcoming and genuine, making you feel more like a guest than a customer.
All in all, whether you’re after a fantastic flat-white, a quality brunch or just somewhere lovely to spend an hour or two, Millar’s Eatery is highly recommended. I’ll certainly...
