I didnt have a good experience at all after a visit on June 2nd with my family. this was the first time we had visited a mother hubbards branch but we were left utterly disappointed with the venue, overall running of the place, prices and the food. Definitely didn't think it was worth the prices. OVERPRICED for what you got, every little side is a chargeable extra and whilst the size of the protion looks impressive it still isnt worth the price as it wont be the best fish and chips you have. I liked the fish however due to the nature of the size of it, and with all that batter which is tasty, you just find it too much and greasy so not ideal and you just don't want to finish it. The chips were by far the biggest let down, they were very big and people say you eat with your eyes first and they are impressive but i feel they just overload the box with chips but the chips themselves are bland, and very very dry... horrible- we couln't finish them you have to drench with sauce or extras as they have no flavour and just given far to many.. The curry sauce was nice and portion was good in the cup but not the best curry sauce you will ever have, just standard sauce you get in most chippys up and down country nothing overly special and for an extra charge it seems like a rip off. every thing is a chargeable extra and like i said isn't the best ever thing you will ever have where you feel it deserves the price you pay. we saw many staff just standing around not clearing tables which seemed odd as this is a seaside branch so very busy plus it was jubilee bank holiday so even more so busy. Many tables left uncleared preventing groups and single customers from sitting down. it isn't the biggest branch so it seemed off there was seating but just wasn't been cleaned for customers to utilise. Even outside the seating is very limited and outside saw less of a staff presence than the inside. There were 2 members of staff serving on the 2 available tills and whilst when I was served they seemed friendly and attentive they did seem very hot and bothered and rushed off their feet but needless to say they were quick as serving seemed friendly and did smile. There was a long queue and I did have to wait around 10 minutes in that queue to be served but this was expected with it being a busy branch and the bank holiday. Food took another 5-6 minutes to be be ready to collect after paying but the food was very disappointing and we all collectively left feeling robbed in all honestly. the fish and chips alone was 10.45 and with all the extras you will end up spending £13-15 on what won't be the best fish and chips you will ever have .
The reputation of this place as a brand is huge but I saw nothing that could justify that spend. I have no issue spending money on good service and food but I don't feel this place warrants another visit , even at another branch. I actually contacted the company via email a couple days after my visit and with it being almost 4 weeks later still have had no reply- this tells me alot as a customer. I feel disappointed by this palce as we planned our blackpool chip and purposely chose this place to eat in and we all felt disappointe and ripped off. All a hype in my opinion and our experience has left us not wanting to visit any mother hubbards. The lack of reply to some genuine customer feedback seems bizarre as surely you want to take this on board, improve yourself, grow, gain repeat customers? this doesn't seem to be the case... Save your money and go elsewhere. in blackpool ironically we had seaside fish and chips from another vendor ( not a chain) standard chippy, fish chips, curry sauce, peas or beans, with scraps all for £5.50 a portion and that was far tastier than the mea here. My lasting impression was - not worth the hype, money and the driest chips I have ever eaten. unfortunately all the things i've written accurately describe my and my families experience and I can't change that.Ps both male/female toilets were SATISFACTORY and not as attended to and clean as they...
Read moreHave watched some positive reviews on Mother Hubbards on YouTube and I understand another branch is due to open in the area where I live shortly. And fish and chips is one of my favourite meals. So we were in Blackpool on a Wednesday afternoon in April and decided to give this establishment a try. There is very limited on street parking nearby. A lot of the side streets are for residents only. We managed to find a space at the back of the Yates pub which is currently closed and looking derelict. Parking was free but limited to one hour. I very much doubt that you would manage to get one of these spaces over the summer months. We went into the building. One entrance does have a ramp which should help those in a wheelchair to get access. Didn’t look the most professional of jobs but would suffice. The place was empty, we were the only customers inside. The menu and prices were up on the wall behind the counter in a lit display. I found them a little difficult to read with the sun coming in from behind us and hitting the display. Might have been nice to have a few laminated menus available that you could pick up and read before ordering. I went for the Super Jumbo and chips XXXL at £19.95 with curry sauce at £1.55 and a bottle of water at £1.45. My brother ordered the Special Large fish and chips at £ 12.95 with mushy peas at £ 1.55 and a can of pop for £1.45. No real interaction with the guy taking our order and he didn’t recommend or make us aware of any offers or deals that might have been on. Food took a good 20 minutes to be cooked. Thought this was quite a long time as we were the only ones in. Maybe it was a good sign that everything was being cooked complete fresh but it turned out if wasn’t such a good sign after all. They call out when your order is ready and you go up to collect and bring back to your table. Mine came in a pizza box and I was staggered at the size of the serving. Huge amount of chips and at least 3 fish in there. My brothers portion was also very large. Although I thought the serving of curry sauce and the peas was a little stingy. Unfortunately quantity and quality aren’t the same. I was very disappointed. The fish, haddock, apparently they only sell haddock, had a strange taste. The flesh was also hard, not firm, hard. I tried to ignore the taste and the smell, maybe it was me, but I’m afraid it just didn’t taste like or have the texture of any haddock I have had. I left a significant amount of it. The chips were thick, too thick for my liking. But they were at least hot and, being thick, there were very few scraps in the box. The curry sauce was thin and had no kick or bite to it. I left a lot of the meal as did my brother. We didn’t bother to bring what was left home as we were just wasn’t enjoying it. I have to admit even if it had been excellent I could never have eaten it all. When I ordered this I wasn’t expecting a portion this size. Probably enough there for 2 adults and two children to share. Again maybe if they had laminated menus they could point out just how much you get if you order the Jumbo XXXL. All in all we wasted quite a bit of money on these fish and chips. The venue itself looked pretty clean. The toilets were. They had a gents, a ladies and a disabled. Unfortunately there were a number of flies and bluebottles flying about as the sun was hitting the windows where we sat. Hope they have something to control this when the summer arrives. Also found an ant crawling on the table we were sat at. Where there is one there are bound to be more. So overall our first visit to Mother Hubbards was a very disappointing experience. I just cannot recommend the food here. It’s probably the worst fish and chops I have had in a long time and another visit to this establishment or any other Mother Hubbards fish and chip shop is definitely not...
Read moreWe went here yesterday as we had read one of the reviews on here said they did gluten free. We came in a group of 4 of us we where not greeted straight away. The lady was in the middle of an argument with the young lad behind the fryer there seemed to be only 2 of them in I think this added to their frustrations. A customer came up and complained her fish was chewy. And in more than 1 peice. The lady behind the counter dealt with the just eat driver and prepared his order while he waited even though he came in after us. When she spoke to us we said that we read they do gluten free in an online review and she said they didn't. We apogised and said we would need to eat elsewhere in this case. I still have no idea if the lady was just saying that because she couldn't be arsed dealing with someone with an allergy or weather they really don't do gluten free. The attitude of the staff left something to be desired. THIS PLACE DOES NOT DO GLUTEN FREE. In all fairness I think we dodged a bullet here we went to Lilly's who do cater for people with a gluten allergy. I wouldn't...
