Have been looking to go here each time we visit Taunton but was very disappointed. No atmosphere, service wasn't great. One of our hot chocolates arrived with a saucer full of hot chocolate. The server said she was sorry but started to walk away, and I had to ask for napkins to mop up the spillage. I would expect her to have taken it away and, at minimum, changed the saucer. The food arrived quickly but was average, the sandwich had slid on the plate so was more like a breakfast on toast. We asked for salt, pepper, and sauce, and it arrived in tiny paper packets, the kind you would expect from a cheaper cafe or takeaway. Given the prices and image they try to project, you would expect sal & pepper to be on the table in grinders, condiments to be in bottles or jars. There are much better places to eat in Taunton, so i will be putting people off of visiting here and directing them elsewhere. You would expect more for the extortionate prices. 2 hot chocolates, a breakfast roll, and 2 poached eggs on a muffin cost over £32, I expected a luxury treat for the money, and I didn't get it. Read moreThis place could be great. Nice location and we are fans of Miles' tea. Come on, you can do so much better than this.
The food is so average, some of it tasting like it's come straight out of a microwave.
Soggy, dry pancakes which had very clearly come out of a packet, plus very low quality syrup, mushy scrambled eggs and bits of pancetta in place of bacon. The pancetta was okay and the rest was basically inedible.
Sausages were very low quality, but cooking of them was fine.
The house tea was very good taste-wise but came served in a cup that needed to see a better dishwasher several times.
The special hot chocolate was topped with low quality cream, and low quality smarties. As a result, it didn't taste good even though the basic hot chocolate was nice.
It's a shame because if the ingredients were better and the cooking was done with more care this could be a really nice place. It's the second time we've tried it and I don't think we'll be back.
The service by the...
Read moreVisiting Taunton for the weekend and it is very rare for me to leave a negative review but it was a very disappointing visit to this establishment at lunchtime. Paid £44 for a lukewarm jug of Pimms and two toasted sandwiches. My husbands sandwich, Bacon Brie and cranberry was fine. However, my sandwich, cheddar cheese and tomato, had very little cheese in it, it hadn't been cooked long enough, the tomato wasn't even warm and the sandwich was so dry, i couldn't eat the entire outside of the sandwich, it was just too dry to swallow. We had to ask twice for more ice as there was so little in the jug of Pimms and none in the glasses. When the waiter collected our plates he could see there was so much of the Sandwich left, I told him it was really REALLY DRY but there was no comment or reaction. I'm sure some of their food is fine but I really feel we didn't get the value for money or the quality I was expecting. I won't be...
