Was looking for somewhere to grab some lunch after my boat trip, and found this restaurant just a short walk from the harbour. Inside it's very clean, modern, nothing fancy but plenty of seating space and some nice prints of local scenes on the walls. Although the restaurant was very busy, service was quick and efficient, and the staff were courteous and friendly. As well as the fish and seafood, they do chicken escalopes, burgers and pies. There are some vegetarian and vegan options, and a children's menu. I opted for the light bite special: a smaller piece of battered cod with chips, mushy peas, a slice of bread with butter, and a nice pot of tea. The chunky chips were really good, the fish though smaller was still a decent portion, and the meal as a whole was well cooked and piping hot. The prices generally were on the expensive side, but the lighter option I chose worked out better value for money because the mushy peas and tea were included in the price.

Neptune's is a lovely sit down restaurant with a takeaway available. The restaurant was very clean. Menu choices were excellent with a good mix of the traditional fish and chips options, vegetarian and vegan variation and non-fish pie options. I opted for the "light bite" cod and chips, which came with mushy peas, a slice of bread and butter and a pot of tea (or coffee) for a very reasonable £12. It was a substantial plate! Fish was cooked slightly over for my taste, so whilst there was gorgeous crispy batter, the fish inside was a touch dry. However I cannot fault the chips or peas. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Absolutely worth stopping in for some food.

Food quality it's Great, tasty, fish fresh Cod nice & chips Great but quantity with price No, its over prices at least 2£ more for dish of "finest fish & chips & bread butter" its not that worthy of almost 18£ a portion, & as well 2£ Small curry sauce it's a lot, so owners must come down a bit with it ££, as size of fish it's not as big as the amount of paying, we had to return one portion as Fish was just half tiny bits in batter & half ok, not good for me as I work myself in Fish Bar shop elsewhere in UK & I can't pass that & pay for it, so one star down for prices on it. Don't lose your costumer in that way I would say, as part of litle advice.

NOT SAFE FOR COELIACS, I don't like to say this because I have been going to this place for years and it's always been great, apart from the Queen's jubilee when they stopped serving gluten free chips. I am coeliac and have always been fine with the food here, but yesterday I purchased chips and every single chip was undercooked and really chewy, I also had a reaction to gluten so there must have been some contamination somewhere in the preparation of the food and I have been very unwell for the last 24 hours, so I have to say if you are coeliac do not risk eating here. I hate to say this as the staff that work here are really lovely, but unless you're coeliac you will not understand how painful it is to eat contaminated food, we're not just being fussy, it is a very serious thing. So I apologise to everyone there and I hope you understand that customer's need to know the risks....

Always looking for places to eat that have good Gluten-Free options as one of my children has coeliac disease. Rare is the chippy that has the seperate fryer for gluten free. And rarer still is the gluten free meal that lives up to the wheat rammed original! We were travelling to Morpeth and staggered into this restaturant after a 90 minute boat trip on very choppy seas. We were starving and freezing but we got the warmest welcome from the staff when we were seated. The GF menu was explained very clearly and she ended up with a sausage supper and chips. The batter was crisp & delicious and I honestly could not tell the difference between this and the normal fish supper my husband had. Cannot reccommend this place highly enough, food is delicious, portions are generous and the staff fantastic. We may have to start driving 2 hours here for our...
