Was looking for somewhere to grab some lunch after my boat trip, and found this restaurant just a short walk from the harbour. Inside it's very clean, modern, nothing fancy but plenty of seating space and some nice prints of local scenes on the walls. Although the restaurant was very busy, service was quick and efficient, and the staff were courteous and friendly. As well as the fish and seafood, they do chicken escalopes, burgers and pies. There are some vegetarian and vegan options, and a children's menu. I opted for the light bite special: a smaller piece of battered cod with chips, mushy peas, a slice of bread with butter, and a nice pot of tea. The chunky chips were really good, the fish though smaller was still a decent portion, and the meal as a whole was well cooked and piping hot. The prices generally were on the expensive side, but the lighter option I chose worked out better value for money because the mushy peas and tea were included...
Read moreNOT SAFE FOR COELIACS, I don't like to say this because I have been going to this place for years and it's always been great, apart from the Queen's jubilee when they stopped serving gluten free chips. I am coeliac and have always been fine with the food here, but yesterday I purchased chips and every single chip was undercooked and really chewy, I also had a reaction to gluten so there must have been some contamination somewhere in the preparation of the food and I have been very unwell for the last 24 hours, so I have to say if you are coeliac do not risk eating here. I hate to say this as the staff that work here are really lovely, but unless you're coeliac you will not understand how painful it is to eat contaminated food, we're not just being fussy, it is a very serious thing. So I apologise to everyone there and I hope you understand that customer's need to know the risks....
Read moreAlways looking for places to eat that have good Gluten-Free options as one of my children has coeliac disease. Rare is the chippy that has the seperate fryer for gluten free. And rarer still is the gluten free meal that lives up to the wheat rammed original! We were travelling to Morpeth and staggered into this restaturant after a 90 minute boat trip on very choppy seas. We were starving and freezing but we got the warmest welcome from the staff when we were seated. The GF menu was explained very clearly and she ended up with a sausage supper and chips. The batter was crisp & delicious and I honestly could not tell the difference between this and the normal fish supper my husband had. Cannot reccommend this place highly enough, food is delicious, portions are generous and the staff fantastic. We may have to start driving 2 hours here for our...
