Noyon Indian — Restaurant in England

To call this an Indian restaurant is a crime. This place is a scam! My wife and I ordered a chicken biryani, lamb roganjosh, pilau rice, naan and raita. The biryani was nothing like biryani at all. It was some odd mixture of rice, peas, cucumber, chicken pieces and lettuce! And it came with an even stranger yellow vegetable curry of some sort, that didn't taste of anything at all. It was even lacking in salt! The raita was just plain yogurt with a couple of slices of cucumber, and the yogurt didn't even taste like yogurt. The worst dish was the lamb roganjosh - this was atrocious! It was a couple of pieces of lamb in a bowl with a ton of tomato pieces straight out of a can! Absolute scam! This restaurant would not survive a week in a place where people actually knew what Indian food is supposed to taste like. If the owner had any decency at all, they'd either close up the place or look for a chef who actually knows how to cook...

Magnificent! We will return to Pickering specifically to eat here again - having enjoying hundreds of Indian restaurants, this one has made it into the top 3 for quality, diversity, and taste! Layers of flavour in every dish. The pilau rice was possibly the best we have ever had. It was exceptionally fragrant - and to remember the rice at an Indian is saying a lot - it was a highlight in its own right, rather than simply a cleanser or filler. The garlic naan was perfectly garlicly and had both a lovely crisp and fluffy dough. The pistachio ice cream was exquisite.

The service was also above expectations. Friendly, attentive, helpful, and ensured our children would be happy with their selection of curries.

Very rare for the spice description to be so accurate too.

It was very busy when we first arrived, so we were waiting about 20 minutes to be seated. That it what is to be expected during busy periods. However, when we were finally seated, that's when the problems began. The staff were not very attentive, a waitress working there walked past us several times without taking an order. When I tried to get her attention, she walked off. We were waiting at our seats to have our orders taken for half an hour. This in itself is unacceptable as well as the poor customer service. We would have gladly waited for our food if they had taken our order within 10 minutes of being seated. It had even gotten less busy by the time we decided to leave so we didn't know what was going on. We will not be going there...
