Couldn't find it on the usual delivery services so took a drive into town and thought I'd pick it up myself and check it out. Nice big venue, well lit and horrifically over staffed. At least 6 members of staff front of house just chatting and having a laugh, I'm not against that but it seemed strange and it bugged me afterwards of which I shall explain.
Ordered a spicy deluxe burger, 3 original chicken and 3 spicy wings and fries.
Total: £16.00 (or just over)
Order was quick, ordered on the self service terminals and let the staff have their japes, was refreshing to see people smile in this kind of work. Order was ready in 5 minutes at a guess and I promptly left without checking my bagged order to run back to my car to get my food home.
Ate the burger in the car. It's a decent bit of chicken, two slices of Kraft cheese bit of salad, cucumber/pickle and what I can only describe as a mayo version of burger sauce which was very salty. It just wasn't spicy and it had little to no flavour. It's a 4/10. KFC zinger is better.
Got home and plated up the rest to share with my roomie. NO FRIES! (I don't mind staff having fun and taking their job casually but not at my expense, so no Cajun fries for me).
Spicy wings same as the burger, no flavour. Standard dorrito style breading, nothing exceptional.
The normal chicken though was actually quite nice, preferred to other establishments but the variedness of how much meat I got was way off. One half a double Breast which was huge then a whole wing and a leg. Tasted nice, textures good and the breast was moist.
Overall if I'd just ate the bit I enjoyed it would of been £5.50 so I wasted £10.50 on an experience that really, really isn't worth it.
I'm not even a fan of KFC so for me to say this isn as good is poor form for a new standard of friend chicken in the UK.
Hope it was just a one off but by all means make up...
Read moreIt's obviously half-term or a school holiday as 90% of the customers who were sitting at the tables in the warm and bright sunshine behind the double height windows of Brightons North street American chicken chain Popeyes appeared to all be too young to expect a tattooed sailor eating tinned spinach or a rotund pirate kidnapping whip-thin heroine (yes, with an e) Olive Oyl for never revealed nefarious purposes..... They may just be onto something though because I think that the chicken sandwich I just ate was probably the best one I've had for a long, long, long time in a commercial fast food property. There's no doubt in my mind that we all - yes, The Clown, the King and the Colonel too - have been shown the future of the chicken sandwich and it's most definitely from your nearest Popeyes. I don't know what makes it Louisiana style chicken, but chunky moist juicy breast covered in a tasty crispy bubbly coating, freshly sliced onions, a thin slice of tomato, a flap of green iceberg, and a bun that was just big enough to hold everything in, it was soft and pillowy whilst also maintaining integrity up to my final mouthful. Sure, I drizzled a spoonful or two of my buddies extra saucy drowned Chicken parm garlic mayo nuggets for a bit of extra lubrication. A n interesting revelation of its own, truth be told. Milkshake variety or their nearest approximation is hereby postponed until the next visit. Of which there definitely...
Read moreI visited Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen in Brighton today after staying at my vacation rental nearby. While exploring the area, I noticed that there were a lot of walk-in customers visiting the restaurant, which is always a good sign. So I hopped in and ordered a Regular 6 Piece Signature Louisiana Chicken Spicy Meal and a Spicy Chicken Sandwich at one of the electronic terminals. The service was very quick, professional, friendly and impeccable. The other guests also all seem to be having a good time in the restaurant. The cleanliness in front of and behind the scenes is also impeccable. The dishes we ordered were, well, OK. I mean something different to spicy. Little happened in my mouth. The Signature Louisiana Chicken and especially the crust were very hot (heat), little dry, but also very bland and colourful as I know Louisiana food. The same goes for the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. I was definitely missing the soul hot effect of Louisiana. Is it now my fault that I don't enjoyed the food like the rest of the clients? Probably yes, because many people seem to enjoy this UK interpretation of soul food Louisiana's. I probably won't eat there again because there's a lot of competition that suits me better. But that's not a recommendation not to visit, just try it out and see for yourself. Because the visitors, apart from me, a professional food connoisseur, seem to like the dishes from Popeyes...
