We recently dined at this restaurant, and unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by a disappointing incident. My husband accidentally left his sunglasses in the bathroom during a quiet time when the restaurant was not busy.
When we contacted the restaurant shortly afterward, we were told that the sunglasses must have been taken by another customer. However, after we mentioned that we would be filing a police report and requesting access to CCTV footage, we were suddenly called back and told that the sunglasses had been “found.”
This raises serious concerns about honesty and integrity, particularly from staff members who are meant to uphold trust in a hospitality setting. While we were relieved to get the sunglasses back, the circumstances under which they were returned leave a lot to be desired.
We hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the issue internally. Experiences like this make it difficult for customers to feel safe or respected.
Edit: Thank you for taking the time to respond. However, we were quite surprised by your characterization of the situation, and we feel it’s important to clarify a few things.
At no point were we aggressive or confrontational. We were simply trying to locate a pair of sunglasses that had been left in your bathroom — during a very quiet time in the restaurant — and had not been turned in. When we were told they had likely been taken by another customer, we calmly explained that, if necessary, we would file a police report and request CCTV footage, which is a standard procedure in cases of lost property.
Contrary to your suggestion that our request caused “significant disruption” or discomfort for your staff, our approach remained measured. It was not until we mentioned the possibility of police involvement that — quite suddenly — the sunglasses were “found” by a member of your team. The timing and handling of the situation understandably raised concerns.
We appreciate that policies and privacy laws exist around CCTV, and we never demanded to view footage directly — only that it be reviewed if necessary. The narrative that tensions escalated due to our behavior is inaccurate and shifts focus away from the real issue: the sunglasses were initially unaccounted for, and only surfaced when the situation became more serious.
We stand by our original review and hope this incident encourages more transparency and professionalism going forward — especially when handling guests’...
Read moreNot cheap but not the most expensive. Decent value, I always come famished and leave full. It's a great place to bring a friend. We like to draw the passing pedestrians whilst having a fresh, juicy burger.
The flavour is 10/10. The Beyond Burger veggie option with the gluten free bun is divine. Lovely crispy chips too. Always served hot. Average wait is about 20mins once ordered, even when they're very busy, they serve you promptly and it's always well presented. Never over or under cooked.
Comfy atmosphere and they don't play music too loudly. It's soothing background sound, as it should be. Since the front faces a pedestrian area, there is no loud traffic or car exhaust. It's really pleasant for people-watching if you park yourself in a window stall.
Attentive table staff, very amiable and cheerful. I never hear the staff grumbling or stressing (which honestly is an issue in some places!). They all seem to like their jobs and chat cheerfully with customers. Laid back but prompt service. They always get the order right first time.
More gluten free options on the menu and desserts would really push this restaurant into 11/10 territory.
The 2 non-gendered toilets are upstairs which might be an issue for some with disabilities. They're also small and old units, though always stocked with toilet roll and kept tidy. The sink is away from the loos, which I much prefer! Again, plenty of hand soap and paper towels, kept clean. Can be a squeeze though if others are waiting. But this is a residential property that has been converted, so that's a quirk of the layout. You find this a lot in Brighton.
Tables are clean, interesting decor. Generally warm in winter and cool in Summer. There is outdoor seating too in the pedestrian area....
Read moreThis is bit different review from another view point. I went there as a self employed delivery driver to pick up an order. I get paid by jobs instead of an hourly wage. The food order has to be ready when a driver arrives for the pick up. This little restaurant regularly pisses off drivers as they are not able to cope with the demand and make us wait 20-30 mins because they call the drivers too early. Drivers keep on waiting there for free. Last time I received two orders at once from them. Got there in a minute (02.04.2021) I had a cigarette first (apprx 5 min) knowing that I will still have to wait for them at least another 20 mins. In Brighton's bad traffic it usually takes more than that to get there. There was a young guy immediately lied to me that my orders are gone already which is impossible. I told him that cannot be. Then he said that he saw me having cigarette and I cannot just have a cigarette lol. I told him well, knowing their usual self managing failures and the way they operate and working with delivery partners the only thing that cannot be is their rediculous waiting time they provide. (obviously their entire service should be banned from the 3rd party take away systems). He said he didn't want to give me the orders so wanted me to cancel them. I said no, I don't want to take their orders after all and cancelled the orders and immediately proceeded to the next restaurant. This bad experience from this unprofessional place was their last chance and of course I will follow many of my colleagues and never ever go back to do business...
