Friendly staff, nice food and easily affordable; I would definately recommend and will return when next in the area. .................
Updating this review after returning in October 2022.
I had an awful experience, having to return my food four times (and left without eating a meal). Initially the wrong meal was served - I ordered sizzling steak but was served steak and chips. I politely explained to a member of staff that I was served the wrong meal and she took my plate back into the kitchen. I was fine with this as it was just an unfortunate mistake.
When she returned with my meal the sizzling steak topping appeared to have just been thrown on the top, but I was pleased to have the correct meal and was hungry, so ignored this, and proceeded to add the condiments. As I moved the mushrooms to one side with my finger to add some mustard, I was shocked to find that they felt like they had been served straight from the fridge (they were literally freezing cold) .
I politely got the attention of the same member of staff and asked her (several times) to feel the the mushrooms as I didn't want her to think I was exagerating! She refused to do so and was unapologetic.
Once again she returned my plate of food to the kitchen, then about fifteen minutes later returned with the mushrooms heated,.... but by then the remainder of my meal was luke warm!! She asked if I wanted it re-heated and I said no, as by this time I didn't trust the kitchen staff and said that they may spit in it if I returned it again, in addition my friend had finished her meal.
I asked her if I could speak to the manager and she informed me that she was the duty manager. I said I was appalled with the service and couldn't understand how the food and service had changed so much since visiting every day on my last visit to the area the previous year. She said all the staff were the same (I find this hard to believe) and mumbled that she had not long started her shift (I was unsure how this was relevant as she had been the person serving us from the start, however I didn't comment).
She then asked if she could get us anything (and returned the money for my meal), offering a free tea or coffee!! We had had a long journey I was hungry and thirsty so asked for a portion of chips and a cup of tea.
After eating the top layer of the chips I discovered some green bits in them (photo attached), I called her over once again (which I found most embarrassing). She was not at all sympathetic, saying it was probably a pea from someones burger plate!! I commented that I would be even more upset if I was a vegetarian if that was the case!.... and I left the remaining chips.
I have never had such awful experience at a restaurant. I will never return or recommend and would give zero...
Read moreWe had just arrived on our holiday at a nearby holiday park, and based on our experience at another Hungry Horse recently, we decided to have dinner at the Rosewood after a long journey. Although the food was good, and the person who brought it was fairly pleasant, unfortunately the lack of customer service and rather unwelcoming atmosphere on arrival let it down. When we walked in, it was quite busy and the sign at the entrance said to find a table, we were looking for a free table and asked a staff member politely if there was a free table for two anywhere, we were met with a very sullen staff member who reluctantly took us to a rather cramped table right next to a large group, but was quite unfriendly and did not even bother to ask if that was ok, and didn't respond when we asked if there was anywhere else, just wiped the table and left. The atmosphere in the restaurant was not the welcoming one described in so many other reviews, and the experience was very far removed from our previous one in March in Northampton. I am unable to eat peas and beans and the steak I ordered came with peas, I asked if it was possible to substitute these with either a small salad or mushrooms, but was told that I would have to pay for an additional side salad or mushrooms. The Northampton restaurant had not charged for this change and had been most helpful and pleasant, couldn't do enough for us, and the attitude was so different and definitely not accommodating in the Rosewood at all. I ended up paying extra for mushrooms and made it clear that I did not want peas. We asked for two large cokes to drink, which were only filled two thirds of the way in the glass, when my husband asked for this to be topped up he was totally ignored by the staff member who.walked away. The meal arrived and as well as the mushrooms there were peas which I had specifically asked not to be added to the meal. The server took the plate away but it was brought back still with some peas left on the plate. The food was tasty, but it was not the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere we had experienced elsewhere. Other tables near us had their plates cleared once they had finished yet ours were left, no one bothered to ask if our food was ok, even though by the time we began eating the restaurant was far less busy, and we left with sadly a very negative experience at this restaurant. The lack of friendliness and customer service unfortunately lets it down. We will not be returning and sadly can't recommend...
Read moreThe Rosewood is our safe-space so it’s hugely appreciated! We are autistic and find it difficult going out at all, but this is one place we can go and enjoy regularly without problem. It’s predictable and reliable!
The food always comes out quickly and with no issues. I can’t possibly count how many times we’ve visited over the years but have never had a meal come out wrong or bad.
This time, one meal had gone through differently than expected but it turned out it was a mistake on my part (due to the way the search function presents results on the app, which is confusing but nothing to do with The Rosewood itself). The lovely manager Jamie picked up on the issue before the meal even came out, when he came to ask us about a preference. I was confused but despite it being my mistake he kindly rectified it anyway and avoided my daughter having a shutdown.
It’s always easy to be seated despite there sometimes being lots of bookings. The staff are accommodating when it’s busy and clearly communicate how long they can free up a table for, before a later reservation is due in.
It’s really helpful to be able to order and pay on the app, especially for those with medical conditions preventing them from standing or communicating at the bar.
Staff are efficient and pleasant but at the same time they give you space, so you don’t feel pressured or overwhelmed like in some other restaurants. It’s easygoing but professionally done.
You have to remember it’s a chain run, family friendly pub/restaurant so there will occasionally be loud tables and kids shouting and running around, but don’t let it put you off as it really doesn’t happen that often outside of holiday seasons. We just can’t really complain when it does as it’s to be expected!
Thank you to Jamie and all the staff. I think their success is reflected in how popular it can be on weekday evenings, compared to in the past....
