Hello, I hate to post this, especially in light of how difficult times are for businesses at the moment. This is Bruce Reginald Robert, he’s a 2 year old Cane Corso, and the biggest sop on the planet. I am fully aware of the fear surrounded by XL bullies at the moment, but I think it is important that not all breeds are targeted. Bruce and I passed by the St James Tavern in Kemptown during his evening pee. The pub was still relatively lively, with hoards of people jumping to take a picture with the lovely Bruce. He obliged with kisses and tail wags. (I would love to know those patrons, and see their photos!) We then went after the last meet and greet had wrapped up, probably 5 minutes in total duration. As I left to continue his walk, a disgruntled man shouted “Could he have a word”, where he proceeded to follow me to the street corner. It’s important to note that he was happy to get within close range of myself and Bruce before his tirade began so clearly had assessed that Bruce was no threat to him, or anyone around. I was told “How dare I bring a dog like Bruce there, I had no right to enter the premises with a dog like Bruce, and that I should have sought permission before bringing him there.” I responded by simply saying I had no intention of remaining, that Bruce was simply out for a quick walk, and that I will be sure to not return under any circumstance, with or without a dog in tow. We then proceeded on our walk where we were accompanied by a lovely young couple who expressed as much shock as me. One even offered to hold Bruce whilst I popped in the shop, so thank you to those lovely people. I am wanting fellow large dog breed owners to be aware, so they don’t have to suffer the same unadulterated humiliation. I don’t believe views such as his, have any place in Brighton, and I am shocked, as I have always known dogs to be allowed and celebrated. Especially the well behaved ones. I hope that the landlord will consider his actions, and refrain from expressing such unsolicited ignorance going forward. I am in shock to say the least. I feel he has let both his pub, and his staff down. Here’s the beast...

Wish I could give them no stars! I was with my friend and was asked to leave, I asked the owner why I had to leave and he said I do not have to explain myself to you! In a very busy pub which were paying customers it felt odd to be singled out however as everyone here was white and I was brown I see the only reason as to why I was asked to leave the premises was due to reasons beyond my control and most likely because of my skin colour. This is very surprising especially in the so called "accepting" atmosphere that is Brighton. I will not go back but i hope this business crashes and burns just as the owners halloween costume last night (lmao). May your actions reflect your business and may it not survive the next pandemic. You know who you are.

Edit: the owner has replied and I understand that you can ask anyone to leave however we were politely seated and quiet, I was enjoying my water and when asked to leave I asked if we could atleast finish our drinks first. The owner then poured my friends drink in a plastic cup and kicked us out for no reason hence my frustration.

I take back what I said about the crashing and burning as the staff was very lovely (except for the nasty manager or owner) but kicking out customers for quietly enjoying their drinks is not a sustainable business model.

As for the assumptions as I was not given a reason as to why I was asked to leave I am only left to...

I’ve been really looking forward to have a fish and chips in UK and I am glad that I tried it here at Saint James tavern. The fish (cod) was deboned perfectly. At first when I saw it was the tail part. My concern was the bone and I have to be very careful but all sorted by their preparation. The overall dish was not greasy which is a big plus too. Then the mashed peas were amazing too.

Then they have Blue Moon beer 😍 which we don’t have in Poland 🤩. Really the food and drink were great for me during the visit.

Service wise it was okay. The bartender was nice. The server and other staff were very friendly.

From a personal note, the ambiance here is a legit English tavern which I like. Although, there was an unusual smell I picked up. Smell like piss. Then I noticed the beautiful parrot at the tavern and realised it must be the source of that funny smell. The place where it is placed. If you are also sensitive with smells, I still recommend this place for the fish and chips and just eat at their outside tables 😊.

Then the tavern felt like a community inside. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Strangers started to talk to each others. I like the vibe but I will only enjoy it from afar as an...

Had a few hours on my hands whilst in Brighton so thought I’d indulge myself with a Sunday Roast in a pub. Many moons ago I used to live in Brighton & I used to come to this place quite regularly…glad I tried it out again 🤓 This is xxx a lovely old fashioned style pub on the corner, with a great selection of beers, wines & spirits. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I myself went for an Atlantic Pale Ale whilst I caught up on some reading & reviewed the menu. I decided to go for the roast lamb. I was a little before service was due to start, but no issues, all really cool & laid back. Saying that, the food didn’t take long to come out, delivered by a very friendly chef. The meat was wonderful, loads of roast potatoes & parsnips, the vegetables were not overcooked, and it came with loads of extra gravy for my Yorkshire pudding as well as the mint sauce. All in all a very enjoyable meal at a very reasonable price, in a friendly, relaxed environment. Will definitely come back next time I’m in Brighton. And they are very animal friendly, which I loved 🤓
