At a cost of nearly £380, I booked to stay at One Broad Street for 4 nights. I had high hopes as the pictures look good on the website and the contact prior to arrival seemed to reflect good customer service. I like booking independent places when I go away, rather than chain hotels. It was straight forward to check into the building androom (number 3). Initially everything looked ok, but being in the space it quickly became apparent that it was quite dusty in parts; bathroom vent, orange light flex, the window cill under the desk, the top of the splash back and the portable fan. I bought some antibacterial wipes and used to give the portable fan and kitchenette sides a tidy. There aren't any tea towels or a draining board supplied, so that you can do something with any crockery/cultery you might have used...l also bought some cloths so that I could do this.Very little washing up liquid available. Unable to use the microwave as not able to reach it, the shelf is very high on the wall. The bottom drawer of the set of clothing drawers doesn't appear to open. I liked having a fridge, so that was a bonus. Didn't use the TV, couldn't do with the faff of having to sign in on different apps. Bed and pillows were comfortable, although lots of noise from other people, local pub playing loud music late into the evening and seagulls made it difficult to sleep. The room doesn't get dark enough for me due to the fire system/smoke alarm lights on the ceiling. I could cope with all the above for the 4 nights, as I was planning to be out for most of the time during the day seeing friends. The shower head is brown with limescale..in hind sight probably a good thing otherwise I would have been able to wash even less of my body/head as the shower tray would have filled up even quicker! Unfortunately there was a significant issue with the drainage from the shower and I couldn't get out of the cubicle without water coming out all over the floor. I got in touch with the 'text number' the first time this happened and after a couple of text messages it was agreed that some drain cleaner would be used by a housekeeper as well as another bath mat supplied as the other one was wet as a result of the poor drainage. I was hopeful that it was all sorted, but it happened again the next day and there was water everywhere as none of it had drained away and I couldn't get out the cubicle without this happening. I had to use towels to try to dry the floor and the remaining water which was up to the top of the shower tray took nearly 40mins to drain away. I sent a text message about 9.15am to say that whatever had been done the previous day hadn't worked, that there had been a further flood and that there were some very wet towels as a result. At approx 11.30am, the text response was 'no worries'...I wasn't worried, but had expected that there would be some action taken. When I returned to the room, nothing had changed there were very wet towels in the shower tray. I booked myself into somewhere else for the remaining two nights as I couldn't face another morning of shower water everywhere, having to mop up the floor again, moving wet towels around the bathroom...you feel like you need another shower after all that. I text to say that I had left and wouldn't be returning due to the shower issue and general lack of cleaning/dust...I felt that the response was fairly poor in the circumstances. This break was my summer holiday and I expect that I can meet my basic hygiene needs easily when I go away. I don't think anyone would have to accept this when they go away and I certainly don't think the owners do if they are away.Funnily enough I won't stay again when I am next in Brighton, there isn't enough overseeing over the rooms and the conditions they are let in. I suspect there aren't spot checks carried out or good enough management/direction for staff to maintain standards. There are lots of other reviews that talk about noise, dust and also at least 2 regarding shower issues but they don't seem to have been acted on. Expensive mistake to...
Read moreI've just returned from a 3 night stay with my daughter,at One Broad Street. On arrival, our inside door code didn't work, so I had to ring the number, and after a few minutes, the lady had sorted it and gave us another code. Great, we were in....upon looking at our room it was very dusty, light switches were sticky, and remote controls were dirty too. The shower walls were filthy, red tinge, and black mould. I messaged the number, and someone rang me, pretty much straight away. I said I was very disappointed with the room etc and told her why. I said the red tinge on the shower wall is body fat, which has come off of other people when washing. It's a residue from people's bodies. The lady said she'd never heard of that before, I've been a cleaner myself for many yrs and was trained in washing and cleaning touch point areas and other areas exposed by this, which the hotel cleaners should be aware of. She apologised and said she'd get it sorted. We had to go out as my daughter wanted to eat, so they arrived while we were out. On return, some of the red tinge had been removed but by no means all. The sides were given a quick wipe to clear some dust, but there was no attention to detail cleaning going on in this room. I also found that the t.v was very hard to fathom, the text was in a different language, which was ridiculous and there were also subtitles on the screen the whole time and I couldn't figure out how to get them off. We found the bed uncomfortable, and on the last morning when trying to pull the bed clothes together, I saw what looked like a blood stain on the actual duvet. There was an awful lot of noise from what I think were other guests above us, sometimes going on until 3.30am. The only thing going for this hotel is the location. I looked at reviews before booking and only saw good ones. Now, on return, I can see many bad reviews also commenting on the lack of cleanliness. The response to these reviews is "Thanks for your review and to bringing this to our attention, so we can rectify this," but clearly, they are not as the issues are still there. A very disappointing hotel experience, we definitely will not be...
Read moreWe just stayed at one broad street this weekend. First off location is great, close to the sea and beach plus not too far from town, maybe 10-15 minutes walk to shopping around the lanes.
Self check in was easy and staff provided the check in details and door code etc in plenty of time.
The room was nicely decorated and we liked the exposed brickwork and wooden framed ceiling. Nice natural light with the blinds open, but they also provide good blackout come night time.
The bed was comfy, pillows good and duvet nice and warm. Slept well.
Other plus points on small details -
Having an actual coffee machine (pod system) is really nice and deffo beats the usual hotel setup of instant coffee sachets and a kettle that takes 100 years to boil.
Decent hairdryer
Plenty of sockets and most had USB charger inbuilt
Fridge and kitchenette are handy especially if you were staying for a bit longer and wanted to be able to make a quick breakfast or something before heading out.
My only downsides would be the following -
The bathroom felt quite dated which was a bit surprising considering the rest of the room was quite a modern decor!! It was clean however which is always important. Also the electric shower isn’t great, I don’t expect miracles from an electric shower but it has this airboost feature which I think is meant to increase water pressure, but it ends up resulting in this sort of coughing/spluttering effect of the water coming out. If you turn off airboost then it improves a bit but the pressure is then very low.
It does work however and again the bathroom is clean, just maybe one day could use a bit of a refurb to bring it in line with the rest of the room!
The room was quite dusty in parts eg around the wooden frame at the top of the windows.
Again though the fundamentals were there and the room was largely nice and clean.
Would definitely stay here again! Good communication with the staff too when we needed some...
