The Gothic Crab — Restaurant in Great Britain

I ordered the classic boil for one with cajun sauce and my friends shared a supreme platter and we chose a bottle of vino verde to wash it down with. The front of house staff were both friendly and knowledgeable. The wine was cold and crisp and sat next to the table in bucket of ice. We waited in hushed anticipation for the main event.

Food arrived for the table opposite and the customers spent 20 minutes taking an assortment of selfies, finally setting their devices down on the vacant table next to them in order to make a time-lapse video of themselves eating. It provided a slightly dumb but entertaining distraction. I checked my watch, it had been 45 minutes since we ordered and no sign of the main event. At just past the hour mark with the wine all but gone, our food finally arrived.

The 'juicy" king prawns were gritty, the "succulent" langoustines had been boiled to a mush and the lobster was chewy. A scattering of mussels and clams and more than a few empty shells swam around alongside sausage, corn and undercooked potatoes in a thin bland sauce.

Seafood can be tricky especially when you are busy, but the price and pitch on the website were way more superior to the food I encountered yesterday. I see the place has many rave reviews which is encouraging as Brighton definitely needs more good seafood restaurants, but every plate of food that leaves the kitchen should be perfect (or as near to) Communication from front of house regarding the delay would have been helpful, but ultimately wouldn't have saved the...

We came here one evening on our trip to Brighton. I'd say that the vibe was good, the look & feel of the restaurant is really relaxed. We did come on a Tuesday night, there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant, so it was quite quiet in there, but we appreciate it was the middle of the week. We spent about £79 in total on the day, this was for the standard £45 Seafood Boil, still water, 1 glass of red, 1 starter and a side.

We ended up getting only 1 seafood boil to share even though it is recommended it's for 1 person, as we felt that with the sides it would be enough. The seafood Boil came, and it was very full. I couldn't have eaten it on my own 😅

When the seafood boil arrived, it went cold really fast. Also, there were hardly any potatoes or corn in there. Plenty of clams, mussels and shrimp, though! The sauce could have been a bit better for me, too; it was a little mild in flavour. We had the Cajun sauce. We also didn't really get much advice or help in regards to the utensils, the lady serving us just kinda left us to it. We wish we had a bit more assistance, as the whole point of seafood boil is also the "experience" of having one, and we'd never had one before.

We had battered prawns to start, and they were honestly the best thing. Much better than any of the seafood boils...

We booked this seafood restaurant just day before my birthday 🎁 We Fancy some lobster and crab this place offers more then we expected an amazing deliciously food and the service is what we aims for after research a few seafood restaurants in Brighton we decided to go The Gothic Crab , with a lovely hospitality provided from start till the end . The restaurant itself full of characters cosy nice decor, great music and lovely solid wood tables . Our Deluxe boil for 2 in garlic and butter as our lovely waitress recommended with 2 other sauces on the side which has everything we ever need specially whole fresh lobster and crab big prawns and lovely mussels 😋 long with chilli crab and 6 jersey oysters to begin with and they are fresh juicy and delicious just a touch of lemon 🍋 and hot sauce they are full of flavour! We enjoyed everything this place has offered our cocktails also was amazing ! I’m glad that we picked this amazing restaurant for my birthday treat we even got a glass of bubbles to start with as a treat it was so kind and very friendly service, thank you so much and we will be back again and next time. We will tackle something else on the menu so that we would have more room for drink and dessert 🍰🍹 It’s been really amazing from both of you...
