Disappointing on several levels. The place overlooks the sea with amazing views but above street level to avoid the noise. The design of Porthminster Kitchen is not of a cafe but a quality restaurant.

That's where the good stuff ends.

I entered and was ignored for ages until my attempts at eye contact became insane. Asked if a table was free (it was mostly empty) the reply was gruding. I almost walked out. Stroppy attitude is not what we pay for.

Food menu looks good. So I tried the fish an chips, and a kale side dish.

Sure an attempt was made to present the dishes in style. Won't win any art awards but at least it's trying.

The fish was tasteless and dripping in oil. Not good quality oil either. Yuk. The plate turned into a swamp of not so nice oil. The batter as like a dish sponge leaking oil. The chips were presented in a nice coppernpan but again didn't taste nice nor had any desirable texture.

The cooked kale surely would be harder to ruin. Nope. When you pay high prices for a fancy restaurant experience you don't expect the dish to be lifeless. All flavour blasted out of the poor kale. Worse to come. A sweet chilli chutney was promised with the kale. In fact the kale was swimming in it. Horrible for texture, horrible for balance..and worse still.. it tasted like the cheap chemical-heavy headache-sweet stuff from an industrial sized tub.

I couldn't decide on pudding. After again waiting ages trying to get their attention I almost bullied a menu off them. In the end I decided not to. I shudder to think what they would have done to a rice pudding. Induced diabetes?

Keep away. You can get good food cheaper and you can get finer dining elsewhere.

Later I sat in a Sainsbury's cafe and the food was far far less distressing.

I think the stroppy attitude should have been the warning sign for me to...

For seafood, this place was top on my list of places to visit in Cornwall. Unfortunately, they did not have any availability in the evenings that we wanted to visit during the Bank Holiday weekend. I think we tried to book a week in advance.

We really wanted to try this place so we booked for lunch instead. This restaurant is on the first floor above a shop. There are some steep stairs to climb before you get here. The view from restaurant was lovely. You get to see out onto the beach. We would have loved to sit in the outside, but we had 8 people, so I doubt we would have fitted there and there were about 3/4 tables there(?).

The food was so good that we ended up being so full! We were the first to arrive when they opened and people started filling up the place quickly. I can hear them turning people away who didn’t have a booking. I loved the seafood linguine, so fresh and such a good portion. I had to share a bit with my husband as I didn’t want so much for lunch. If I was able to book for dinner, we would have tried more food. I shared the squid starter, burrata salad, linguine and side salad with my husband. The sauce for the squid was so good, it was sweet with a touch of citrus. The price is higher here, but it is expected since there is a lot of seafood. Service was good too, the waiter was helpful and we had a good conversation. There was a 12.5% service charge, so the total came just under £250, which was not bad! We thought it would be much more, maybe if it was for dinner it would have been more. I would recommend this place for the seafood linguine. There were a few other dishes we would have loved to try. So if I came back, I would love to visit this...

My mum and I went to the porthminster kitchen yesterday as a little girly treat, We walked in and waited to be seated, the 'delightful' lady told us to wait, she went to sort a table for us and proceeded to tell us to sit in the corner, no menus were given. My mum went and asked for menus as we had waited a while for them. She took our drinks order and asked if we were ready to order, my mum has gastritis so is on a very restricted diet, we told her no garlic, chilli, sauce or anything basically bland nothing in it what so ever. 'Simple?' Food came quickly and looked and smelled delicious - mum took one bite and said this has white wine and has lemon in it, I took a bite of it and the lemon was so over powering. We took it back to her and said this has lemon in I need it plain, well the 'delightful' ladies attitude changed. She came over i explained to the lady that we told you it needed to be plain its that black and white - her response was to put her hand up and told me to stop how rude.. She said you just said no garlic or chilli. This went on for a bit!! Instead of saying sorry about that I'll get it changed. There was nothing offered what so ever. We offered to pay for the drinks her response was 'Don't bother!' This review isn't based on the food, because the food looked delicious - this review is based on the atmosphere and the rudeness of the member of staff!! When...

While exploring St. Ives Harbour, after a Googling for sea food place, we stumbled upon a hidden gem: Porthminster Kitchen. This charming restaurant, though not immediately noticeable, offers a delightful culinary experience. The restaurant's interior is modern with a beautiful designed old wood frammed fireplace that creates a relaxed dining atmosphere. However, the entrance to the second floor dining area could be better marked to attract more guests. Food: The menu at Porthminster Kitchen features a creative and diverse selection of dishes. We started with the Korean Fried Cauliflower and a custom salad, both beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. For our mains, we had the Roasted Hake Fillet and the Whole Cornish Sole, which were cooked to perfection and showcased the freshness of the ingredients. To finish, the Crispy Rice Pudin with Coconut Sorbet was a delightful and refreshing dessert, particularly appealing to vegan and gluten-free diners. Service: The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made recommendations based on our preferences. We highly recommend!! Yummy 😋🤤
