Tabbs Restaurant — Restaurant in England

Wow. We had such a nice reception, the hostess was so friendly, so happy, and made us feel so welcomed. Not a thing was too much trouble. The smells in the restaurant were just mouth-watering, the anticipation of food was intense, and we hadn't even ordered yet! When ordering I quired about olives in a dish ( because I'm fussy!) And the hostess actually bought me out a small sample to see if it was OK for me. When the dish came out it was absolutely exquisite 👌. Clearly a chef who knows what he is doing, the sharp pickles, and the richness of the goats cheese was just perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed it, a really well put together starter. Our mains were equally as well cooked, and a fantastic mix of flavours and textures. The additional veg was really yummy! Visited on a Saturday night in October for a “special meal”. First customers into the restaurant. The waitress had a face like a slapped arse, the decor was like a scene from life on mars. Atmosphere non existant, music playing loudly in the background, could hardly hear each other speak. The menu choice on the evening was a set 3 course meal or something from the a la cart menu. We had already decided prior to visiting that we wouldn’t be having a sweet due to one of us being diabetic and the other with high cholesterol, so on a low fat diet. So it was a choice off the a la cart menu. Unfortunately we didn’t fancy much on that menu, eventually deciding on the monkfish. The fish was cooked perfectly but there was something smoked on the plate (covered in oil)? which ruined it for us. In mid July (15th) four of us visiting from the US had four superb dinners at Tabbs! Unfamiliar with hake, I dared to order - and am so glad I did because of the excellent preparation. I will probably not order it elsewhere for fear of dimming the wonderful memory of your chef's magic. From beginning to end our meals were perfection, beautifully served, professionally presented and delicious on the tongue. What a treasure we found by blind luck!
