My wife and I had picked this place as our last watering hole on a weekend tour of the North east. As a pair of Rockers it made perfect sense to wander over to the only venue that we though fit our style. Love music, which was great and the band were very good, a decent selection of drinks without having rows and rows of bottles to scan through to find 1 you like and a very friendly atmosphere with the patrons all dressed up with hair in various styles and colours, lots of Black obviously, goths, punks and a few in between. The toilets, well the men's are what I'd call a traditional punk/metal club affair! And as for the ladies......it's nicer but there's a bit of a surprise 😅 It felt very safe too. Oh, it's up a pretty steep slope if you're coming from the riverside!

Been going here since I was 18, and hold my 'Rock n Roll palace' close to my heart ❤️ 🤟 beer gardens always good for the banter, and the music is 2cnd to none. Good assortment of real ales, beers, wines & cocktails, and the staff are efficient, friendly and very helpful. If you like loud music, rick, punk etc, with a great atmosphere, check the Angel out!

Stayed in Durham for an overnight stay as my husband had an interview to go to in the morning. "Why don't you see if there is a bar that you might like" he said...."I doubt anyone has my style here, rock n roll may truly be dead" I said...NO! Said my google assistant Durham has EXACTLY what you need and you need to follow me this way.....my eyes widened, my heart rose into my throat and I felt that the gates of hell had opened for one such as I to venture into...THE ANGEL.

And there it was Ladies and Gentlemen, a bar with a cool dude behind it welcoming us into what felt like my home, sharing our interest and tales of the games that have long since past and giving us adventures far and wide telling us the legend of the live bands and business on a weekend but alas this legend only works on Mondays but FEAR NOT.....beyond this roadblock a sight to behold, a stockpile of Camden Ales ready to quench our thirsts, A jukebox that is free on weekdays and my eyes shed tears for the walls were adorned of every god of rock n roll to metal and everything in between and either side.

It was this night I knew the overnight quest to Durham was a success and as such I will return to live out my legacy as one of the followers of this amazingly...

Used to be an awesome bar and obviously with coronavirus things have been difficult but every other bar in Durham can serve everyone in the bar. The angel cancel orders while people are still in the bar, doesn't let people know till you go up an ask and picks and chooses who they want to serve. Poor culture and poor and rude service. No standards that staff have to abide by. Also its always been very obvious staff serve friends before customers which has been perpetuated by...
