Stepping into The Holy GrAle in Durham always feels like arriving at a beer lover's second home. It’s got this instantly friendly, cosy atmosphere – a genuine hub for good conversation and even better drinks. You’re immediately drawn to the bar, and that’s where the magic really begins. What sets this place apart, for me, is the relentless dedication to change on their taps. Their line-up of cask ales and especially the key keg selections are constantly rotating. I mean, constantly. Every visit is a new adventure. One week I’m discovering a spectacularly fruity New England IPA from a tiny, cutting-edge brewery I’ve never heard of, and the next I’m enjoying a perfectly balanced, traditional dark mild. They don't just follow trends; they showcase a truly diverse and quality selection that caters to all palates, from the hop-head to the stout enthusiast. Crucially, you’re never left staring blankly at the board. The staff here are genuinely knowledgeable – not in a pretentious way, but with an infectious enthusiasm. They remember what you’ve had before, offer insightful recommendations tailored to your taste, and can tell you the backstory of every brewery and style on offer. Asking them for advice isn't a chore; it’s part of the fun. It’s this combination of an ever-changing, high-quality drinks menu and the warm, expert service that cultivates that wonderfully friendly atmosphere. Everyone seems to be chatting, whether they’re friends or strangers bonding over a shared love for a rare key keg gem. The Holy GrAle is more than just a bar; it’s a vital, vibrant part of Durham’s beer scene, and honestly, I couldn't...

The range of craft beers and speciality snacks deviate from what is the overly commercialised offerings of other pubs, to create a veritable smorgasbord for all palettes. It is acceptable to practice individual endeavours, such as studying or reading amongst what is the succour of their lovely pints. This place provides a free spread of food every Sunday to their patrons, which is exquisite and truly imparts a sense of care in which this establishment has toward...
