Brilliant NO CHILDREN are allowed here. So do not bother trying. The reviews on here can testify to this. For me this is a bonus and the notice outside stating no kids is what made me and my partner try it. We had walked past many times and for some unknown reason, had never tried it until we spotted the sign We often leave a restaurant early due to some screaming kid, so jumped at it. Onto the experience. So what we found here was a lovely relaxing atmosphere in a wonderful old pub setting. Made extra special as it is Christmas time Only one very slight negative was they had 2 xmas trees with the extra small one covering the beautiful big log fire. They should keep to the one big one and make sure the log fire is in view. On to the food. Menu is slim but full of old style favourites, you won't find a pizza, burger, wrap or nachos here. This isn't a negative thing as it also adds to the style of this great pub. I had a steak and ale pie, partner had a cottage pie. Good homemade food. We both loved the food and I bought the chef a drink as it was that good. If you want a nice relaxing, beautifully homemade food at reasonable prices (not cheap but not outlandish). You won't beat this little find. ......To some of the previous reviewers, just go to spoons with the kids in tow. It states no kids!

We loved The Black Dog in Weymouth! Stumbled upon this gem by chance and very happy we did. It appears we weren’t the only ones, it was busy in there all the times we visited. It’s a proper pub. Pool table, darts and cards etc. Offers a great selection of drinks including scrumpy ciders available to take away. Really enjoyed the cocktails, pirate booty and the wrecked pirate were memorable. We tried the food too, it was good quality pub food and very well priced. There was a slight mix up regarding the gluten free dish, however this was resolved immediately and the staff were very apologetic for the mix up. All the member's of staff were great, very friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly place too, we loved meeting the black dog himself, Bowie! The Black Dog will be first on the list of places we go when we come back to Weymouth. Thank you!

In 25 years of visiting Weymouth, this was our first time having food in The Black Dog. We'd popped in for a swift drink a couple of days ago and liked the look of it so decided to come back. It's the oldest pub in Weymouth and has a fascinating, if macabre history. You can read all about it on the walls, they also have lots of pictures of Royal Navy ships, a nod to the naval history of the area. They have a typical pub menu, I had the lasagne, my wfe had chicken and bacon pie. We both announced them to be delicious. The staff were very friendly and happy to chat too. If you want cheap and cheerful, boil in the bag, go to Wetherspoons. If you want a good old fashioned British pub, with great food, go to The Black Dog.

EDIT: 'I mean' 🤣 your version of events is very different from mine. As predicted, your reply coincides with the service we received- rude. In regards to condiments, you'd put them on the wrong table. How did we know that condiments put on table 7 were meant for us? I had an old lady glaring at me from the moment I sat down. I didn't 'snap' at anyone. Seems like the lad who came over about my own food on the table is quite frankly, a liar. I didn't have an issue from the beginning at all? I'm not sure how you've come about that opinion. I didn't actually speak to any members of staff before the lad came over to me, so i'm confused how I'm the one who had an issue from the start? But going by all of the previous 1 star reviews and your passive aggressive replies, it doesn't surprise me that you're blaming the customer for your own bad attitude/service. As for the customers on the table next to me, I had actually been having a conversation with them before I left. It was YOU I had an issue with, and I wasn't going to thank you back for your bad attitude, although there was no look of disgust- again, another lie. Although I did hear the comment you made to another customer about me. Just so you know, you can't eat comfortably on the table I was sat at, as it's too wobbly- perhaps you can get on to fixing it. I wish you well in your waitressing career, I'm sure you'll go really far 🙂🙂

I had two bags of cakes from a bakery which I'd purchased before arriving. They were put on my table as I didn't have a bag with me. I kept being stared at by a member of staff, who then got another member of staff to approach me telling me I can't eat them at the table which I wasn't going to anyway. The staff are rude and need to put as much effort in to their customer service as they do being nosey at what's on people's tables. Food is average, nothing to write home about. Food was dumped on the table and waitress walked off. Didn't ask if we wanted sauces etc. Won't be...

Most dreadful customer service I have ever encountered. I literally looked up from my phone as I was buried in it, happy to unwind with a drink and my friend was relaying what the score was on rules which apparently was no big groups at tables. She said calmly it’s quite strict. As the welcome we got was very hostile from the bar man from even before anything was said. But honestly that is just a general observational opinion. My friend was telling me that I needed to get out my ID. At 31 I was flattered. But I was immediately refused service after my friend relayed what the bar man said after my only ignorance of having my head in my phone. She probably only wished I would have listened!! I politely pointed over to our elderly friends and pointed out they were having a chilled out lovely time. As we intended. We were were met with what I can only be described as a very over sensitive response to an polite observation. I wouldn’t go here if you want to enjoy a drink with friends. I had been told by locals that it was previously encouraged to allow drinkers in and the next bar we went to we were met by an extremely lovely lady who even told my friend she was the nicest girl she’d met. So honestly… working for 14 years as a manager myself in hospitality…. I’d suggest having a polite discussion with your customers. Who knows? The bar man may have been hungover or having a bad day? But we were certainly in a good mood before entertaining this place with an awfully negative welcome. I would give...
