After getting rather drowned on a walk we went to The Boatshed, and received a very friendly welcome and the offer of blankets to warm up. Emma was our main waitress, was very helpful with both the wine list and recommendations as to what to eat. We settled on mussels which we shared as a starter, ( we shared a main ) and thank heavens we were sharing between 3, because that is an impressive portion of beautifully fresh mussels. We all settled on the Simon steaks. Some of the best sirloin I’ve had for a long, long time; good enough to eat rare. Perfectly cooked chips, which I say very rarely, and an incredible pepper corn sauce, not too strong but packed with peppercorns and a decent jug of it, so no chance of you running out. In fact, I couldn’t criticize a thing! Emma kindly let us take some of our food home, because the portions are so generous ( and we’d maybe been greedy with the size of the starter) that 2 of us couldn’t quite finish. I can only thoroughly recommend, and would liked to have told Chef Nigel how impressed we were but didn’t get a chance to. I can assure you, you will not leave the Boatshed hungry or disappointed!!!!

End of night efforts? We popped into the boatshed after a long day of travel and were quite hungry and chilled from the ocean air. The staff were friendly even though we had gotten the entrance wrong and seated us. We went for some easy classics - couple of ciders, fish n chips, & a dirty burger. While waiting the staff were pretty helpful and polite, though right near the kitchen we did hear some playful yelling from time to time. The place was decked out in old ship and nautical bits - nice but could use a little dusting and refresh imo. The food was a little mixed - my fish and chips were a bit dry & quite more batter than fish. The ratatouille I had was a big heavy on the tomato notes, but it was all edible and filling of course. Their Tartar sauce was a very welcome extra for the fish. My partners burger was large and juicy, it made me regret my fish order. Haha. Over all it's a nice enough spot for a bite, perhaps since our visit was closer to the end of the night just some minor improvements would have been well noticed.

We ate at The Boatshed and enjoyed our main course. I had the sea bass which was really well cooked, great flavour and no bones at all which was great. My boyfriend had lemon sole which was the exact same, totally delicious. Unfortunately our starters were not that good and the chicken goujons tasted like Fridge Raiders chicken from the supermarket which was disappointing and my calamari rings were very basic and quite under seasoned. The wait for our food and drinks was poor as well, we were warned it might take a while however waiting half an hour to get our drinks is a little too long. However it was busy being the half term so we didn’t complain. Overall it was a good meal and the fish was very well cooked but it was certainly over priced for what we got.

Arrived on a very wet & stormy night. Friendly attentive service. Good choices of fish & seafood based dishes. Our starters of grilled sardines & moules Mariniere were good, the mussels especially fresh & juicy. Unfortunately I couldn't eat my trio of grilled fresh fish, owing to the intensity of the strongly smelling vanilla candles, burning on the window sill next to me. I did ask the server to remove them, she blew one out but there was another further along. My fish had an excess of oil on the plate d the fish was covered with chopped herbs or possibly chimmichurri? This coupled with the sweet smell of the candles made me feel too nauseous to eat. My husband's burger however was delicious, I guess I'm just very sensitive!

Here I found the possible best Fish & Chips in the entire UK to my preference. The beer battered was coated well with the fish and it supered crispy. Generally, elsewhere here, I found the coating was quite soft and oily (which made me previously believe that the UK’s Fish & Chips must traditionally be served soak in oil) Their fish also entirely fresh so I strongly recommend any fish dish here. The staffs were nice and friendly. However, the food was super slow. If you are free the entire afternoon, this please could offer you the five-star meal experience. If you are in the trip that have the strict plan and are hungry, this place could ruin the trip and make you feel like the food take the eternity to prepare.
