The Turks Head is a must-visit for any traveler to Penzance. This historic pub has been serving locals and visitors alike for centuries, and it shows no signs of slowing down. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The food is delicious, and the beer is always cold. Whether you're looking for a place to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring, or you're looking for a lively place to enjoy a few drinks with friends, The Turks Head is sure to please. Here are some of the things I love about The Turks Head: * The history: The Turks Head is the oldest pub in Penzance, and it's been serving customers for over 700 years. The walls are lined with photos and memorabilia from throughout the pub's history, and it's a fascinating place to learn about the town's past. * The atmosphere: The Turks Head is a cozy and inviting pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere. It's a great place to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring. * The food: The Turks Head serves a delicious menu of classic pub fare, including fish and chips, burgers, and pies. The food is always fresh and well-prepared, and the portions are generous. * The beer: The Turks Head has a great selection of beers on tap, including local Cornish beers and popular brands from around the world. The beer is always cold and refreshing, and the staff are happy to help you choose the perfect beer for your taste. * The staff: The staff at The Turks Head are friendly and knowledgeable, and they're always happy to help their customers. They're also very passionate about the pub and its history, and they're always happy to share their knowledge with visitors. If you're looking for a great place to enjoy a drink and some delicious food, I highly recommend The Turks Head. You won't be disappointed.

Came upon this quaint little pub while exploring the old town behind the seafront. It's very easy to spot because of the colourful flags on the front of the building. It's also a very ancient pub ( 800 years old according to the chatty young barman who served me), with wooden beams and nautical pictures on the walls. There's even a smuggler's passage hidden beneath the pub. It's sealed off now because it's unsafe, but you can go down some steep steps to the basement to see the old wooden door leading to it. There's a nice little beer garden at the back, but I had lunch in the cosy bar. The staff were both hospitable and friendly. Chose a local cider from a very extensive drinks menu, and it was really good. Plenty to choose from on the lunch menu too, including sandwiches, traditional pub favourites and seafood dishes, but I only wanted something light, so I ordered two of the bar snacks: tempura vegetables with a Japanese dipping sauce, and pea and mint arancinis with lemon mascapone. The portions were generous, and what a delicious mix of flavours! Good value for money too. Enjoyed the time I spent at this pub, and would highly recommend!

Great hospitality again from Neeka (Landlady) I've been here a few times for work and always a warm welcome from Neeka This is a super little pub that looks very small on the front but extends inside into many levels and through to the beer garden at the rear. Very nice staff and Landlady who have this treasure of a pub looking amazing throughout. Parking is limited outside, but this is a beautiful grade listed pub and is definitely worth a visit if in the area. It was refurbished to a very high standard 2 years ago but very in keeping with this traditional very old pub... ( One of the oldest in the area ) Lots of seating throughout Including a private dining area down stairs. 😎

All of the vegan food was really great and it's really welcoming that they offer so many vegan options. Vegan Fish&Chips made from banana blossoms with the vegan tartar sauce was superb. Chips were good and crispy, peas not really. Booking a table in the evening is advised. We booked one the day before via email. They didn't find our reservation though but luckily still had a free table. What I didn't like was that almost everything was not available or delivered like it was written in the menu (and no notice in the menu about unavailability). The mediterranea. quinoa salad had no quinoa in it, I think it was Ebly (wheat). And also the small salad is really expensive for 8.95ÂŁ. A gin was advertised to be decorated with strawberries but there was no strawberry. And finally there are desserts in the menu that you cannot (always) order and at least I didn't saw a notice about that. They brought us a small blackboard with dessert instead and the vegan cheesecake should have come with vegan vanilla ice cream but the server informed us that only pistachio is available. Dunno if they've just run out before we ordered. All in all the food was great but the experience with the menu and differences to what is written in the menu was a bit annoying. We did not say anything as it was fine for us, we were just surprised and it happened with so many different things. Also, it would be nice to see what non alcoholic drinks can be ordered and not (nowhere mentioned and no menu for that) to be looked at strangely by the waiter when you want to order something non alcoholic.

I would still go to the Turks Head again when in...

After reading the bad reviews on this site. I do have to say I agree with many of them. For my starter I got the king prawns. They as stated were in a nice sauce, however they weren’t peeled, leaving me to stick my hands into the pool of sauce and peel them. I have to say, with a little planning that would of been a nice starter.

I got the last portion of sausage and mash (which I’m hoping is the reason I got a slither of mash and a bowl full of gravy, with two sausages drowned at the bottom.) As you can possibly see from my quotations, I didn’t get any vegetables with my main course. Unless you count the slimy onions placed on top .

My parents got the curry. It said on the menu that it came with poppadoms, which they soon realised weren’t actually on their plate. Finally once they asked, the waiter, offered them some bread as a consolation prize.

It would of been nice to know that they were out of them before ordering. The curry’s were very dry, and as my grandad proudly stated “this is no curry” the meat was chewy and my dad said “that it would be alright in a sandwich but not on its own.” The rice was in a small quantity for the price.

For the desert as a table we ordered 3 brownies with mint chocolate icecream. They were fine. No complaints.

The only thing saving this place from a 1 star review (even after reading the owners obnoxious responses to people’s reviews) was the waiter, who was very nice and polite, and the fact that we got our money back for one of the curry’s. (Most of my family wanted to be polite and not complain, yet my...
