I normally love a Wetherspoons but this place is terrible. It deserves 5 stars for the building as the layout and location are outstanding with the courtroom area and cells real highlights.
However, at the time of our visit it was seriously understaffed. A helpful and bubbly girl behind the bar... but she was on her own. The one guy manning the floor, waiting and assisting, was under real pressure and he unfortunately showed it with little grace. He was rude, clumsy and with no care for customers. I put this down to understaffing as he was flying around the place but he was definitely losing the battle. He dropped one side dish splashing my footwear and legs with hot sauce, with no apology; he replaced the dish 10 minutes later with no comment.
The food was particularly terrible. I had the chicken and ribs combo from the steak club menu - I haven't tasted chicken cooked so poorly. It was desert dry and inedible, see the pictures. It was almost impossible to identify it as chicken, it was like a piece of carpet. So I left it. Ribs were ok but the sauce on them was a bit jellied. The sauce with the chicken breast bites side dish tasted of washing up liquid.
What a waste of a lunchtime when you're on holiday.
Thankfully my local Wetherspoons at home is world's above this one in terms of quality and customer service.
Hated it and won't...
Read moreHaving visited the pub twice i must say that i am dissapointed in my experiences.
The place offers several indoor seating areas aswell as space to sit near the bar. Toilets are located upstairs which were mostly clean and tidy.
A fairly renovated establishment however as with most Wetherspoons the tables are incredibly sticky! Unfortunately there is no car park for the pub however there is a large public car park a short walk away!
The main part of my negative experience was the food. Spite asking what was not available it still took 4 attempts to order food due to the fact that everything I wanted was not available. I think we all prepare for a meal or two to not be available but for 4 meals... I think that's incredibly poor - if you're not going to serve it, take it off the menu!
Drink prices are inconsistent. I always have the same drink (black current and lemonade) one day it was one price, the second day it was another price... all down to charging for mixer or whatever. Again, if you're going to charge for a drink, make up your mind what the cost is and tell your staff!
The venue gets incredibly busy on a night mostly with young people and as a result of this they have hired security.
I have visited this establishment on two separate occasions to ensure I get a fair review and feel after careful consideration that...
Read moreWe were visiting Keswick and my daughter wanted to go for food. The Wetherspoons was her choice but as we arrived we realised that they didn't allow dogs, even in the outside area, where we wanted to sit. This was extremely disappointing as the town is so dog friendly, it was a lovely day and we wanted to enjoy it. It also meant we had to put our dog in the car with the windows open and keep going to the carpark to check on her. There was a lovely older gentleman who was entertaining everyone, playing all variations of music. He even played some kids songs for my 2 year old granddaughter and another young child. Everyone was enjoying it, singing along only for the manager to tell him that "we dont allow music". Talk about putting a damper on a lovely spring day!! We had ordered 7 sharing plates between four of us. 5 of the plates arrived after about 30 minutes (it was very busy inside and out so this was understandable). However after finishing them our other 2 plates still hadnt arrived. We had to ask for them twice. The first server never returned. The second brought one plate and we had to reminder her it was 2 we were waiting on. Pizzas were disappointing. Dont think I would order them again. Chicken strips, chicken bites, mozzarella sticks and fries were...
