Stopped into the tourist information centre asking about the Catbells hike. I'd read up about the hike and parking from a Rick Steves travel book. When I inquired about where to park near Hawes End the tourist information person said they don't allow parking anymore and I would have to pay to park at the marina and take a ferry to Hawes End landing. She then asked if I had a map. When I said I was going to rely on my phone she said there is no cell service there and I need a map that cost $1.50. I knew that was unnecessary from the description in my travel book so I declined. We decided to drive and found parking easy enough and the route was extremely easy to follow and well signposted. I even had cell service at the top. I was very disappointed the tourist information just didn't give honest feedback on parking and the need for a map instead of trying to upsell me on everything.    Read moreWent on here to find out about the bus times as we had no car we wanted to use the buses to have a view of the local area the lady in here seem to know an awful lot about the buses and she explained the two buses 77 and a 555 well one of the better passes to see the lakes so we used the 555 to go down to Windermere first thing in the morning spend the day there and then catch the 599. (Bus crew all very informative too) Day ticket all travel £11.50.    Read moreSunny Keswick at its best today. Busy but not mobbed with loads of courts/alleys to escape the crowds. Wonder ful Nessun Dorma sung by young lady in main square. Range of shops, pubs, eateries excellent ( tho' I still miss the wonderful Malt Whiskey shop in Lake Road! ). Not expensive either compared to Bowness eg, tho' Booths is a rip off!
