What an abhorrent experience! I went today and was barely acknowledged at any point. Was I invisible or had I died without realising it and they couldn't see my spectral form!!!? There is sincerely something very wrong the staff and customer service in this establishment. At least five times staff walked past me without even looking in my direction. Two separate staff I witnessed cleaning the same table twice and were far more interested in conversing with a gentleman who they were clearly on a first name basis with. He wasn't even ordering anything and was sat just waiting for his wife apparently... I decided to give them a bit longer and see what they would do eventually. When a lady came in suddenly, yet again on a first name basis, one of the staff quickly grabbed a pad and pen as she entered immediately requesting her order... Now, there is nothing wrong with my attire or my appearance, I look after myself and as for this day I was wearing a shirt and trousers, so I can only assume from my experience as with several other similar reviews here that this so called coffee house is part of some secret secular society simple peasants like myself are not welcome to frequent. I have lived and visited numerous places both in the UK and abroad and I can safely say I have never ever experienced such lowly and pitiful behaviour from a so called business in my entire life. I have seen from other negative reviews that the owner (I presume) uses her replies to self advertise while making a snide sideways insult at the reviewer. If she/he does so here it will only prove my (and others) point. I left this place with my dignity intact and honestly it was a life affirming experience indeed. People like this exist and are not worth my time or money. I would highly recommend anyone, who isn't a member of their secret society, to keep their self respect and avoid this often empty 'coffee house' like the plague. Take it from me, and others, you are highly likely to not feel welcome to say the very least! Perhaps I didn't know the password or secret handshake needed to acquire their privileged service requirements...who knows!! Go on owner, advertise your latest specials in your reply, you really can't sink much lower anyway 👇 UPDATE 2024: Nothing has changed at this dignity free void of despair even all these years later! WOW!! I'm just surprised they haven't yet donned white masks and maintain their life force by drinking the blood of the young. Maybe that is a ten year plan rather than five 🤷 It took YEARS but the owner finally responded. Couldn't even come up with anything original....
Read moreLovely place to eat or just have a coffee, off the high street. Interesting eclectic decor shabby chic but done well. Dish of the day Moroccan meatball terrine was lovely and great value at £6.50. Toasted ciabatta with tuna also tasty. Great flat white coffees (just a little foamed milk) and the “hot chocolate soup” was like hot melted chocolate mousse. Maybe just a bit too sweet and thick my son thought. Chunky cakes from the tray bakes. One piece was enough to split between three of us. Dog friendly and our greyhound Iris had plenty of space to stretch out without getting in the way. Friendly staff and overall a lovely experience. Would visit again next time we are in Berwick. £30 for three people for this light lunch, with hot drinks. Considering the quality of the food I though was...
