Berwick-upon-Tweed was amazing. There’s just so much to do here. It is our 3rd visit but never fails to amaze. We spend a fair part of the day enjoying the views of three of the bridges. In particular the Robert Stephenson, Royal Border Bridge which was started in 1847. The skills involved in building such a viaduct never fails to amaze me. We walked across the two other bridges which was a pleasant walk, not too arduous. We then continued into town and then enjoyed a walk to Lowry’s at the Chandlery. Where we enjoyed the most delicious sandwiches followed by cake and coffee. After lunch we walked along the waters edge to the ramparts. They are incredible structures and should be visited at least once in your lifetime. There’s a great view towards Holy Island and the most swans I have ever seen in the water. You can walk the complete walk around the walled town and I highly recommend you do it. I would happily visit again....

It IS possible to go inside the town hall in Marygate but we thought it was open 10.30 to 2pm whereas those are the guided tour times so, after going to the top floor to see the old council chamber and one time prison, we were rudely chucked out by a man. We said we just wanted a Quick Look to which he replied “You’ve had one so you can go now!” He could have...
Read moreWhat an unexpected, but great discovery. We were looking for somewhere to wander as we'd only really looked at the town centre. Upon spotting the green area on Google maps we mooched down. So jealous of the allotments with their view over to the sea breaking waves in the distance....beautiful. We hadn't realised it was part of the Lowry trail. So the information board was great. We then walked down to the wall edge (it actually forms part of the walled walk). Honestly the views are beautiful. Definitely work the walk out of the way, particularly if you get a sunny day as we did (early...
