The Joshua Tree — Restaurant in England

If you get the chance take your time to locate this wonderful historic venue tucked away down a ginel off Stramonsgate in heart of Kendal. If you do then, like us during our recent visit, you'll be glad you did.

The Joshua Tree is a small family run Café & Bistro nestled in one of Kendals oldest Yards in a historic 16th century building. Here we found a warm welcome, great service and some lovely food at an affordable price.

The produce is locally sourced and freshly prepared by the team in the upstairs, small and open kitchen area. The menu is unpretentious but with a great selection of what I would call traditional British fare.

The homemade soup of the day was delicious, the vegetarian quiche delightful and the chicken, leek and mushoom pie superb. All served by pleasant and efficient, but not intrusive, staff in a wonderful quirky setting. So I'm from the States so take this for what it's worth. We were in the Lake District on holidays and, due to some inexperience with driving on the left side of the road, I had to stop in Kendal to have a couple of tires replaced. While there we stopped at the Joshua Tree for lunch. First, the restaurant was charming, the service was terrific and the food was delicious. Even if none of that was true, I still would have given the Joshua Tree 5 stars because, at the recommendation of my server, I had my first taste of Sticky Toffee Pudding. Shelley recently catered for a baby shower for my friend and everything was fantastic. She allowed to us have the whole venue for the event and catered to our (very specific) dietary needs which was really appreciated! Shelley and her team decorated for us and made the restaurant look amazing, the mother to be loved it and we all had a great afternoon.
