The Lion — Restaurant in England

The Lion is a great pub just off the main high street in Newbury. Friendly atmosphere, great choice of drinks, comfortable seating and even a nice covered outdoor area for sunny days or smokers.

The pub staff / owners are all great, as well as the regulars - all friendly and welcoming, and help to make The Lion feel how a pub really should feel.

Tex/Mex food served from the kitchen - order at the bar - all freshly made and very tasty, usually happy to accommodate asks like extra soured cream or salsa.

Looks nice from the outside, lovely brickwork, windows and signage, but is a bit soulless within. Nobody else drinking for the hour at lunchtime I was there. Not the pub's fault but I'm being asked to grade the atmosphere, so... 6X was fine, music was a really weird 90's mix of banging house and German rock ballads. I don't want this recommendation to encourage any more punters to this establishment. Especially on Thursday nights when they carry out an enjoyable quiz for all.

Unhelpfully for my cause, not only are the staff friendly but the other punters are unnecessarily nice too. Yes, I don't want this excellent pub to be more popular than it is. That would be terrible.
