Don’t be fooled by the title of castle, not that we expecting a suite fit for a king and queen this place is far from grand. Stains on the walls of the rooms, splashes of some liquid on the radiator and an endless flushing toilet made this one of the more grubby rooms I’ve stayed in. The restaurant wasn’t any better as the bar was massively understaffed with youngsters that had absolutely no knowledge of their drinks. Ordered a starter and a main, starter arrived barely warm and tasteless but to be fair I had ordered the vegan dish by accident (I have since purchased a t-shirt stating that I am now vegan). Waited 20 minutes with the half finished starters in front of us, bar had a cue out the door and we just thought if they are this poor out front what’s it like behind the scenes, we had paid for our food so just decided to leave before the arrival of the pie which apparently is award winning so may have been the game changer with this place but I doubt it. There was a wedding on and I sympathise with the staff as they were very friendly, but sorry, extra staff when busy is a good idea, ended up getting fish and chips round the corner and a bottle of wine from the off license for the room. Don’t think I’ll bother returning

Looks nice from the outside but disappointing when you get to the rooms and pub food. The room was very dirty with dust in the extractor fan, broken floor tiles, damaged bath panel, dirty shower head with built up grime/limescale and a hole in the wall in the bedroom. The service for food was not good either. Booked a table to find it had been taken when we arrived then asked to sit outside where it was quiter and felt like we were making an issue because we were a bit out of the way of the main outside seating. Ordered dessert with the mains got the mains super quick but the chicken seemed rubbery, waited for over 40 mins for dessert then got told that we had to ask for the desserts at the bar. Despite the bartender taking the notes that the desserts would follow after main was not told I had to let them know at the bar that we were ready to have the dessert. The general manager was friendly but to be honest this felt like the only good part of the visit.

Perfect location, easy to get around and we got to have nice evening walks along the seafront, food was also lovely. Room was a nice size, although we did stay in a room (room 7) close to the stairs and hearing people drunkenly stumbling to their rooms in the evening wasn't great due to being a light sleeper, decor is abit dated and some of the furniture was a little thread bare could definitely do with a little tlc, still has its charms though. Staff were lovely and accommodating, downside was the one time we did actually get to come down for breakfast was having to wait half an hour when we were basically the last people to eat. Regardless, we would definitely still return as it wasn't an extreme inconvenience and there was more positives then negatives and we still managed to have a great anniversary weekend just hope to not get a first floor room next time. 😁
