6 adults 2 children visited for Christmas dinner , we pre-booked and contacted the pub on 2 occasions by phone and 1 time walked in for food the weekend before and spoke to the restaurant about our Christmas party visiting for dinner. All dinners had no pigs in blankets on any of the meals but advertised, We asked prior to visit on the menu .we asked for 1 dinner not to have Brussels or red cabbage, but 1 had red cabbage and no Brussels and another had no Brussels at all along with no pigs in blankets (Christmas day as menu stated) Most dinners were cold , the steak had no Yorkshire puddings ,pigs In blankets as above or stuffing (as advertised) , over the phone we asked if my husband could change the chocolate fondant and Bailey's cream (doesn't like )for something else and was promised triple choc brownie and ice cream, Chocolate brownie did not come out , chocolate fondant with Bailey's came out and it was cold inside, Even was asked over the phone weeks before if ice cream was wanted (yes please) When we visited the weekend before was told veg would come out by waiter on Christmas day in separate bowls (no ) Bit embarrassing scraping off ref cabbage from your food in front of everyone. Very disappointed with our first venture out on Christmas dinner and the cost of a meal of £85 was just like having a normal Sunday roast. The young blonde waitress was really nice and polite and we did tip her and drinks was nice but having to serve your own coffee though was disappointing. I appreciate the hard work the staff put in and give thier time up and we are grateful , but i would not recommend the meal to anyone 😕 at this cost with the mis communication and missing food from the menu, false advertising. I will look forward to your response very soon so i can stop talking about the poor meal we have had . Regards Tracey and Darren Thompson

Read moreBetween the 17th and 18th of July, as part of the festivities surrounding my girlfriends birthday weekend, myself along with 3 other guests (all of us inhabiting three different rooms respectively) stayed for a solitary night at the Ryde castle hotel.
Despite being the epitome of a very picturesque sea-front hotel in terms of appearance, the clockwork of services inside left a little to be desired. I must stress that there were some highlights to the hotel such as positioning to the bus station, beach front and shops as well as the beer garden space outside. The beds were also devilishly comfortable and the rainfall showers were a wonderful addition.
and now, unfortunately, the unpleasantries.
The food was of a good but not exceptional standard. My own dinner of the mussels in white wine for an Entrée and scampi and chips for my main course were a very respectable 8/10 and 6/10 overall. Alas, as I woke the following morning, while finding my in-laws munching on toasted bread (toast), I also found bitter disappointment. Having ordered an eggs benedict against the pleas of my fellow diners to avoid any complications in the kitchen, the dish came out with a sour and noticeably lumpy sauce which would have made Charles Ranhofer turn in his grave.
Secondary, the standard of cleaning. I presume that the head of cleaning Stevie Wonder will have little to say on the matter but we found ourselves with a few items of note. One of the bathrooms toilets would have been forgivingly mistaken as a formula one race track with the skid marks adorning the inside of the porcelain. Multiple surfaces were caked with dust as if the building "originally built by Henry VIII" as stated on the website was in fact last dusted in the 16th century. Also there was a finding of a stray wet wipe behind the curtains who had been separated from the confines of its packet.
Despite this, the majority of the staff, while young, were incredibly friendly and helpful. Which is an added bonus when having to explain why it takes 15 minutes to get some glasses of water and why some of the rims of the glasses still had the lip markings of another (hopefully illness free) guest.
The room was in the region of £160 per night and upon consideration I would have been happy paying for £40 for the quality of the stay including . The staff were happy to incentivise the Saturday nights meal as remuneration of its failings.
Would I go again? On the condition that the cleaning staff are tested for both their eyesight and whatever illness causes...
Read moreBe very careful eating here if you have allergies! I am vegetarian and ordered the vegetarian roast dinner, mushroom wellington. The waitress bought it to the table saying Beef wellington, so I had to check it was the mushroom. She said as a waitress it was just her job to bring food , not know what it was so I cut it open to check! Was eating the meal, having poured the jug of gravy over, when I found an unusual item on my plate, a long piece of something unfamiliar to me. My husband (a non vegetarian who was eating a roast pork dinner) looked and said, that's pork crackling, I should have had that. Somehow his crackling was on the vegetarian plate. I called the waitress over to check what had happened, she had no idea and I had to really stress she needed to tell the chef and to check if my gravy was the vegetarian or if it had been mixed with my husband's non vegetarian. She came back saying I had the vegetarian but I didn't trust anyone knew. The general manager finally came over, we explained and he apologised and offered us free dessert. I couldn't eat my dinner, various family members who eat meat ate some of it. We did accept the dessert and enjoyed that, but I was surprised I wasn't offered at least the cost of my meal back, after such a mix up. I just didn't feel they took it very seriously, and having just read a previous review from someone with allergies who was served the wrong meal it seems this is not unusual at this place. I will never go back, and I am concerned someone could become seriously ill here if they...
