I've just walked from Torquay to Brixham and it's rougher and harder than you would think!! So I needed a pint in a good old real ale pub.....but it wasn't. No real choice apart from the usual Tribute. Jail ale was out, so had a John Smith. Not the the friendliest of greetings but it was better than going in the 2 modern dull pubs ( The Bullers Arms and the Prince William ) further around the harbour....Cheer up!!

I came to this pub at the end of long day walking the south west coast trail from Shaldon. As I paid for my pint my phone went dead (a new portable charger I had bought for the trip failed). I usually take my physical card with me when I hike but forgot on this ocassion. The barman very kindly allowed me to drink the beer while my phone charged. The owners, unbeknown to me, were sitting at the bar. The male proceeded to take the beer off me and said I couldn’t have it until I paid. The female then asked me if I was ā€˜taking the piss’ for coming into the pub without the ability to pay. I looked at her incredulously after which she came very close to me, raised her voice and told me to leave, and snatched the phone out of the charging socket. I said it was no wonder they didn’t have any customers (there were 6 other people in there) and promptly left. I actually felt for my safety (and I’m a pretty tough cookie). All in all, a really...

As previous reviews: the bar owners are unwelcoming and rude: I’ve drank in brixham for 20 years and have never been made to feel like that before. Shows the lack of pride when you have a sign made for pirate festival and mackerel is spelt incorrect on it. It’s the name of your pub?? Entrance has no carpet, two toilets broke, damp up the wall in men’s toilet. We spent 100 pounds in four hours and had to leave in the end and was made to feel uncomfortable. I’ll never enter the place again: find a job in a morgue: be better suited. How you thought you would be successful with dealing with the public...

I’m not sure what’s more shocking, a landlord telling me which bathroom to use or that fact people think this place is 5 stars. Pirate weekend and it was dead in this place for a reason, warm beer, flat atmosphere and very rude managers. Never saw one of them smile in the time we were there, if you don’t like the public maybe get a different job. Also charging 60p for a top of lemonade on a beer never heard anything so stupid. Don’t...
