Ordered from here recently and after hearing some good feedback from friends of ours we decided to see what the fuss was about.
Unfortunately my experience was the worst I've ever had with a takeaway, absolutely disastrous.
To start off we ordered at 19:45, we had to confirmation and knew that it could take about an hour according to their delivery times. It got to 21:30 and I decided to contact them to see where my food was. So I rang the landline and a lady picked up but wasn't responding to me however it seemed like she was chatting to a co-worker and having a good time while ignoring me on the phone. After listening to their conversation for about a minute she decided to acknowledge me in a rude manner and when I was giving the details on my order she decided to carry on her other conversation and then came back to me asking for me to repeat myself. When she had my name and number she then went on to lie to me (didnt know this at the time) saying that my order went out 20 minutes ago and should be with me shortly. So I sat tight waiting for my food to be delivered... 10pm passes by and still no sign of the food...11pm and I get a knock at the door! The delivery driver was very apologetic and had eluded to me that he had ONLY JUST picked my order up from the shop so they lied to me. At this point im tired and hungry so I just wanted to eat and go to bed as I had an early start at work the next day.
HOWEVER the food was not exactly what I was expecting as id heard such great things!
We had ordered curried mutton, jerk chicken, rice and peas, patties, dumplings, bammi and pepper prawns.
Now I've had a lot of jerk chicken in my time and even been to jamaica but what I got served so absolutely rancid, chicken which was covered in a gelantinous sauce and was grim! (see attached picture). The curried mutton was ok, but next to no meat in my portion and VERY salty. The rice and peas which is meant to be flavourful and fragrent by itself was hard and crunchy and had the taste of unsalted boiled white rice! Patties lacked flavour due to the filling being so sparse and the pastry bring so thick (I've had better from Asdas) dumpling and festivals seem to be made from the same batter and in my experience dumplings shouldn't be sweet. The Bammi was rock hard, usually a crispy outer and a soft inner but this wasn't edible and seem to be reheated. The saving grace was the pepper prawns as these had a nice spice and flavour to them.
Customer service here is appalling and from the other reviews I've read on various food apps im not the only one to have had an awful experience.
I love Jamaican cuisine and when done right its one of the best in the world but these guys have let the side down massively.

Read moreMy recent visit to The Tropixx Caribbean Restaurant & Takeaway, located just a short 5-minute walk from the train station, left me with a positive experience. The interior exuded a clean and welcoming ambiance, reminding me of the charm of traditional Caribbean restaurants. However, an inconvenience was the absence of prices on the displayed menu.
Despite the initial hiccup with my order of sweet chili wings and sweet potato fries (which were unavailable), I chose the oxtail dish, which came with rice and peas and steamed cabbage and carrot. While the portion size could have been slightly more generous, the oxtail itself was tender and flavorful. The rice and peas was also satisfactory.
One small disappointment was the unavailability of plantains, but the substitution with coleslaw turned out to be a decent choice. The coleslaw was good, although not the standout dish of the meal. On a positive note, I appreciated the well-stocked freezer with a variety of Caribbean drinks, adding to the authenticity of the experience.
The staff, both the lady and gentleman, were pleasant and accommodating. Although there was initially an extra charge for dining in, they later waived it, which was a considerate gesture. Overall, The Tropixx Caribbean Restaurant & Takeaway is an excellent choice for those seeking authentic Caribbean flavors which I consider...
Read moreI had the 3 pc fried chicken and fries (7.5) and the small Mac and cheese (5). The fries were nice and crispy. The Mac and cheese was possibly the best I've ever had. It seemed to have several kinds of melted cheese in it. The fried chicken seemed small at first but turned out to be ok, especially for the price. It was a tough but seemed fresh, not my favourite but it was all good value. I'm eager to try the curries that people are raving about.
I tried the mutton curry and Mac and cheese again. Mac and cheese was even better than the first time. But the curry tasted very similar to an Indian kind of curry, but inferior and the rice was a bit harder than what I would like and the large portion was not actually that large contrary to what some other reviews say, so for that I think I'll reduce my...
