Popped in to The Elephant for a glass of something! After several hours doing some early Christmas shopping. The pub is nicely set out and has a warm cozy feel about it even though it is spacious, which is ideal for anyone with wheels. The bar staff are welcoming and friendly and it was a nice touch to see they had Mulled Wine on the go, it warmed us up a treat. Although we were not dining on this visit I did browse the menu and was pleasantly surprised at the good variety of vegetarian and vegan options, good to know as I have many friends and family that this will suit and I'm not adverse to meat free meals in my attempt to eat healthier. The prices were very reasonable and as I live quite local I'll be trying this out quite soon. If you are into sports then this is most definitely a good place to chill with friends. There are more than enough screens for everyone, so no matter where you are seated, you'll have a good view. There is a nice covered patio garden that I have whiled away several hours in this year with friends. And the toilets are amazingly clean for such a busy popular pub. All in all it is a lovely venue, especially on a cold wet afternoon after the trauma of shopping!! Edit July 2024. Fabulous weather, what better than sitting in a pub garden evjoying good company and a few drinks in the afternoon? But not today, with loud music inside and also in the garden there was no chance of a relaxing soirée. We drank...
Read moreIt's a lovely pub garden buy the staff don't seem particularly on the ball.
We arrived at around 4pm on a weekday to sit in the garden. We were seated next to a table of smokers and asked to be moved because I'm 6months pregnant. Our only option was outside because of the restrictions.
The first waiter told us it wasn't possible (although as you can see from the photo there were LOTS of empty tables). We questioned this and he said that "people were arriving soon".
My husband went in to speak to someone else to try and render some common sense from someone.
The woman explained that all the tables were booked.
We asked if they were booked in the next hour and she said no.
When pressed, she also explained that she had just assigned a table plan (but for some reason she couldn't fathom that she could switch us out with another table for the next hour and that it wouldn't affect her plan because we'd be gone by the time her new guests arrived).
Needless to say, after much explanation to the woman, she finally understood that it was possible to seat us at another table, that no one was due to be at and it wouldn't affect her table plan for that evening.
When we arrived, there were 3-4 tables seated. When we left there were 4-5 seated. No great customer rush. No big deal to manage the switching of tables. All they did was make us feel...
Read moreWe arrived on Xmas day very excited and we’re not disappointed at all. We had a lovely cheerful welcome and even received chocolate for my two sons which was really kind and generous. The service throughout was without fault, always checking if we had drinks and nothing was too much trouble. The starters came out promptly and I thought it was delicious. I had Salmon with beetroot and a horseradish sauce. We had a free round of drinks as Our Turkey mains were out a little later than they would’ve hoped but we honestly didn’t mind at all, they were spot on and we were just talking, drinking and playing with the cracker toys. I had a gorgeous Xmas pudding for dessert but struggled to eat it all as was so full. We couldn’t have asked for a better Xmas dinner as the whole experience was wonderful. Polite, friendly staff, making the effort to talk to my boys about Santa. We got home afterwards and were still talking about how we enjoyed ourselves and we were all so very thankful to all the staff for their hard work being away from their families on Xmas day. I would definitely recommend and would love to spend Xmas day at the white elephant again!! Well done guys, honestly was such a...
