I finally made it to breakfast at ‘The Canteen’. The relatively new walk-in cafe down the leafy lane Newbiggin. A gorgeous little light and airy beamed room with views of the gleaming steel kitchen area where the magic happens. I had a piping hot plate of soft, fluffy scrambled eggs with perfect, ultra crispy bacon on a base of tangled greens. Absolutely scrumptious. My favourite coffee was served via an individual stove top espresso maker - very cute and cool. Me and gf seduced by the cake in the window, drawn in with the 'Death by chocolate' slab of cake. Couldn't decide what to get as ALL looked appetising. Went for slice of that, slice of banana loaf and honeycomb/ white choc flapjack. OMG the flapjack was amazing... Stunning, soft, squishy and tasted delicious. Top-notch all around! You can tell you're not dealing with a run of the mill bakery as the place looks almost as good as the baked goods. However, the selection is subtle and understated...yes, I know what you're thinking, "who isn't selling a sausage roll?". But oh boy, who sells sausage rolls like this...that's a whole other story! The service was warm and welcoming, like I've been coming here...
