Far too expensive for such an awful experience.
Firstly, £7.50 for a Delirium? Extortionate.
However, some would argue that you pay for an experience/atmosphere as well. That brings me onto my bigger gripe.
After spending £15 on two beers for me and my partner we could barely hear each other speak over the barman's friends: four obnoxiously loud, rude, swearing guys who were stood at the bar banging around and generally being inconsiderate to the other punters. I must have heard every swear word under the sun at least twice, and at a volume that totally dominated what is a very small bar. I clocked eyes with the other couple sat in the pub and we had a glance of shared exasperation at the behaviour of the barman's mates.
Not only was the behaviour of the four men not challenged by the barman, it was actively encouraged. He was joining in and egging them on, and could not conceal how funny he found them.
I really couldn't recommend...
Read moreI used to love the place but have had two visits now where the bartender has been rude on arrival. But the most recent visit was bizarre. At this one he had a Trump cap hanging off the bar and was talking to two guests in some pretty derogatory and racist terms about Chinese people, Arabs and South Africans and then bizarrely he started spouting off conspiracy theories about chem trails, sacrificing children, pizza gate and several others. Then he started talking about trying to get people as far right as he can. Bars aren't the place for this. If my bartender started spouting communist propaganda I would be just as annoyed. Don't think I'll be back. Judging by the fact there were 4 people in there on a Saturday evening I'm guessing most other regulars have heard this rubbish and...
Read moreWas one of my favourite go to bars in Exeter but sadly has declined massively and we don't go there anymore, having previously been fairly regular over many years. Originally had interesting ever changing beers brewed at their sister pub, then had quality craft beers from LHG, Verdant etc. Now sadly seems to be run by or tied exclusively to Firebrand who are decidedly average. Also not a particularly friendly/welcoming barman since it all changed late last year & a decline in the choice of music, though I may just have been unlucky with both on my visits. A real loss to the Exeter pub scene. Used to be 5* for me, and I'm sure I already updated my old 5* review several months ago to reflect the changes but that seems to have disappeared so have just...
