I stayed here with my partner we are in our 20s. We decided to stay here for one night for a treat and a nights break. The lady we met in the reception was polite and friendly she showed us to our room. We stayed in a double en suite room for 70 pound per night. The room felt like walking into a dated decor bedroom it didnt feel like a hotel or bed breakfast and wasnt very big. The en suite was lovely clean and decorated beautifully thats the part that felt like a hotel and made us say wow. The tv was difficult to work out and we couldnt find the buttons at first there was no instruction manual. We had a key to get in and out so we went out at some point. But coming back in at 11pm it felt like we were sneaking into our parents house after not being aloud out for the night it didnt have the hotel or bed breakfast atmosohere it was dead silent. And no one was about And we felt uncomftable and like we had to be quiet we didnt talk till we got back into our room and even then we whispered. The walls are very thin and the flooring creaks when people walked above it sounded like they were bouncing on the floor. You hear what people were saying in the other room so it didnt feel like we had any privacy. There were no extra services like call for food or drinks even tho they have a kitchen down stairs so a trip to the shop was needed. You can hear what goes on outside i would recommend a place with double glazing unless you want to hear banging from someone hitting their punchbag in the shed over and over. We werent told were the pool was or any other facilaties were i guess they just wait for u to ask which is not very helpful. They also dont have any pool opening times. The bed was comftable once i had untrapped my self from the heavy duvet on me cos they had tucked the sides underneath the mattress. The breakfast dining room was lovely decorated the breakfast served hot but very small especially for 70 pound u cud buy and make ur self a large one for five pound it tasted nice but one sausage one egg one bacon mushrooms and beans is not very good when u spent quite a bit of money. And get something thats worth three quid or less. We left about 8.44 instead of 10am as it felt nothing uncomftable and boring. Handing the key in my partner said his thanks and appreciation to a different lady who saw to us and in return he got abrupt rude replys like she couldnt wait to get on with what she was doing and get rid of us. Fair enough u might be busy but doesnt take two secs to be polite. We feel its for more older people past their 50s. And we will not be staying there again. We recommend jurys inn as we stayed there previously...
Read moreI stayed at the Bendene for one night in a single room. Due to a train delay I arrived a little later than expected, and called ahead to let the hotel know.
Upon arrival I was shown to my room, which was on the top floor of the townhouse. It was quite a climb, and having walked up the very steep hill from the station I was surprised that the lady who showed me to my room did not offer to help me with my suitcase. I understand that it's not a requirement, but it's a touch that I would have appreciated.
The room was basic, with a single bed, a sink, wardrobe and a television. It was clean and well presented, and the size was adequate. I had a good night's sleep on a firm mattress and pillows.
In the morning, I went down for the breakfast buffet. This was disappointing as there were very few vegetarian options. I made do with eggs, baked beans and a tomato. Toast and tea were offered, but it would have been nice to see some hash browns or mushrooms at least to make the meal a little more substantial. There were two other vegetarian guests at the buffet with me who also seemed a little disappointed.
Overall it was a reasonable hotel for a one night stopover, but I wouldn't recommend it. It didn't live up to the four star rating it claims to have received, although perhaps the double rooms may have been a...
Read moreI stayed on a Saturday night here. On arrival staff were friendly and welcoming including free flapjack. Rooms easy to find. I shared a twin room. Looked nice kn the way in. Clean and tidy and well presented for a townhouse. Nice bath in the bathroom. The main thing was my mattress had lost its bounce and in the middle had completely sunk. My poor back in the morning and a poor night sleep. The other mattress in room 3 was lovely. However room 1 where my other friend stayed also had the same problem with the mattress. There were quite a few noises during the night, from the stairs creaking mostly. In the morning rhe breakfast was perfect and tasty, no complaints. They were busy but they were calm and professional. Easy for catching a train at Exeter Central. Easy for a shopping trip or night out in...
