We enjoyed a member of staff' retirement do in Exeter and followed it up by enjoying the evening at The Chev with a few rounds of drinks. After several rounds of drinks we were kindly asked to move inside the building as the roof top was closing, we happily did as asked. During our drinks we chose to have some tiquila with salt and lime, one member of our group threw her slither of lime over her shoulder (which unfortunately went over the staircase). Obviously this wasn't a threatening move. More than half an hour later a member of staff approached our table and said due to watching CCTV footage of a clip they had watched of us, we had thrown a slice of lime and it had hit someone, who was on the stairs, that we had to vacate the building after finishing our drinks. A member of our party asked to speak with a manager, the staff member said he was management and then he walked off. After a short time we decided to drink up use the facilities and leave. On returning to the table to retrieve our personal items, the 'manager' approached one of our group and said they thought out behaviour was unacceptable and asked us to leave also stating we were being rude and inappropriate?? When we asked about the incident and contact details, the manager was agressive, rude and said we didn't need his name and that he was the only South African manager in Exeter!! We were told we were ' band' from ever entering the premises again. 20/07/23. Unfortunately it really spoiled our celebration and we will be putting in a formal complaint about the manager in the Chev in Exeter. The doorman (I think his name was Nathan) and ALL bar staff we encountered were friendly...
Read moreWent here for a meal on Bank Holiday Friday evening.. I ordered the large Mixed Grill, and it took no longer than 10 minutes to arrive, which I thought was good... but alas, the first thing I cut into, the lamb steak was only just seared on the outside and was red raw on the inside.. as the Bar was extremely busy I took it back to the Kitchen entrance and asked the KP to ask chef to just put it all back under the grill for a few minutes informing him I'll be waiting back at my table wich I have him the number... after about 7-8 minutes, the plate arrived back at my table, undisturbed and was exactly as it left my hands just 7-8 minutes COLDER... I then, this time, went straight to the bar with the plate and asked to speak to the duty manager.. he arrived after less than a minute, and I explained to him what had transpired over the last 15 minutes.. he apologised and said he would go to the kitchen and cook me a fresh meal, HIMSELF if I didn't mind the wait.. I agreed, and the meal arrived personally delivered by his hand in about 10 minutes, presented extremely well, and cooked to perfection.. I commended him and shook his hand in thanks as he had done a fantastic job.. but the actual chef at the time I ordered had done abysmal work.. I commend the duty manager as his professional ism was perfect in handling the situation and the meal he cooked...
Read moreStopped at Exeter on way back from Cornwall and went in on the off chance. Floor was really sticky and so was the service. I ordered on the app. The drink cartoon for my son had something brown and sticky on, so I asked at the bar for a replacement, it wasn’t much better so I had to wipe it. The waitress who brought the food out had a bowl of chips sat on-top of the child’s spaghetti bolognaise. My wife ordered the burrito salad bowl (with chilli con carne) but the chilli never arrived. When we mentioned this the staff went and had a conversation with what appeared to be his manager, he then came over with a receipt and questioned our order, once i showed him the order email on my phone he apologised at stated that they would refund us for the chilli, and that would go straight back onto my card. Almost a week later and no refund has appeared. To top it all off their ‘funky’ toilets upstairs were full of midges flying everywhere. Disgusting feel to the place and the staff did not really seem to care. I know weather-spoons are cheap and cheerful but this was cheap...
