Having visited Exeter on the train for a day out we had eaten lunch but then fancied some refreshing cocktails as it was a warm and sunny day.
Having looked online a venue called The Cocktail Club appeared and it had received many positive reviews, so we gave it a go.
From the moment we arrived we received a friendly welcome from the lady behind the bar, we are not that familiar with all the varieties of cocktails available, so we explained what we liked in our drinks whilst the helpful lady detailed what cocktails were available with our choices within them.
We were pleasantly surprised to find out that there was a 2-4-1 offer on cocktails, so we ordered additional drinks for ourselves.
It wasn’t long before a second lady appeared she had been moving lots of chairs down from the upstairs level down to the ground floor level.
Next time we got served the second lady served us and she was just as knowledgeable about the range of cocktails available and again made sure that we purchased something that we would really enjoy.
Over the rest of the afternoon, we got chatting to a couple who were visiting, and they said how they always have a welcoming and friendly experience at the venue.
As we were enjoying ourselves so much, we lost track of time and missed our intended train home, but at least that meant we were able to try even more of the lovely drinks on offer.
For a smart location, the drinks were reasonably prices, 2-4-1 cocktails were just £12, and we also had several shots as well, all in all we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the staff (who on leaving asked their names – Emily and Tayla) really added that extra factor to make us want to come back again when we visit Exeter next.
It wasn’t just the welcome and cheerfulness of the two staff that was impressive, it was that they kept finding things to do when not serving, some venues you see staff just leaning on the bar or playing with their phones but the two we saw are a real credit...

The bar staff was dancing on the bar, taking multiple shots, and partying with the customers like it was Coyote Ugly in Vegas. Very cool. The drinks were a bit pricey and could have been a little better made. The music was great. The unfortunate turn for us was an extremely jealous bar-back that thought my friend and I were interested in…what we guessed was…his bartender girlfriend. He caused quite a scene a few times during the evening. Going as far as to want to go want to outside to fight! Talk about completely mis-reading the clientele, and totally out of line and unprofessional behavior. The bartender in question (young enough to be one of our daughters, by the way), was fun and friendly, handled it all fairly well from what we noticed. There was, of course, zero interest on our part. We actually felt sorry for her having to deal with his hot-headed, territorial behavior. Well, his final solution in dealing with this threat to his insecure, fragile ego was to have security remove us. We quietly left, not wanting to create a stir, and it was closing time anyway. Even the security guard seemed sympathetic to the nonsense we had to contend with. The lesson here is that relations in a work environment like a bar or club with an overly jealous and hot tempered partners is probably not the healthiest of environments. I included a nice picture of the happy couple dancing on the bar together. If you go, make sure not to talk too much to her, and bring your boxing gloves just...
Read morePlease AVOID! This place needs shutting down. It has a seriously nasty vibe and I would say not a safe environment to drink in so be careful - especially young females. Visited on 3 occasions now and each visit has been a dreadful experience. The clubs philosophy seems to be to get everyone out of their senses early on happy hour deals and then charge extortionate prices once people have lost all their wits. As such it attracts quite large groups of very aggressive drunk males, I’ve personally witnessed many trying to grope women and intimidate their partners. Fighting and vomiting seems to be a regular occurrence outside this place as it encourages binge drinking. My wife was spiked here on our last trip which has never happened anywhere before, safe to say we wont be returning. The noise inside is so bad that you’ll struggle to hear someone standing next to you shouting (and the music sound terrible for it). There’s just nothing enjoyable about this place. Frankly it needs looking into by local law enforcement...
