Costa Coffee - Rochester High Street — Restaurant in Great Britain

Surprisingly clean and friendly coffee shop. Usually, coffee shops in busy tourist areas tend to be unfriendly & rather run down; this was on-par! Friendly staff, clean store, open spaces, plenty of seating and the coffee was being prepared to Costa's standard. Unfortunately this Costa is only getting 3 stars for the following reasons. No matter the size of the queue/line or how many folks are piling out the door, the staff will continue at a rather relaxed and undisturbed pace. Waiting customers are also not being acknowledged [sic that they are waiting and will be served shortly]. Secondly, while they have a bathroom, it's... not in a state where I would want to touch much of anything. Also, they have a Kimberly-Clark tissue dispenser for toilet paper. Err... what? And lastly, while there is a ton of 'No Smoking' signs pasted on all the outside chairs and tables... folks still continue to puff-puff away (which is not ideal when you have kids with you). All in all, I'd definitely go back, coffee was good... but it's not a bathroom stop for the family and kids I would...

I did come here with my family for hot chocolate and cakes but I was refused payment as I had only £50 note but total bill was almost £30. I wasn't too happy to use my credit card but I had to do so. When I enquired about reason I was told "there are signs everywhere not my problem you didn't see them" So once I paid I did inspect all inside and outside signs and there was not 1 saying a word about £50 notes. So I asked serving staff member to point me out one and she went behind the till and and got one hidden behind the till. That was not visible unless taken out from where it was.

Hot chocolates where room temperature as weel had to ask for preplacement So service was very bad and quality of food was also bad.

Then a random man did come and did spill all our children drink as he for no reason moved away for 6ft their table I did inform staff about and did come over with my youngest boy in tears but they answered all we can do is just apologise without offering a new drink to this child in tears. Definitely not...

Visited Rochester Costa with my daughter, very rude member of staff shouted across the store to tell us to stand on the door mat as only 3 persons allowed to queue, understand this but a notices stating this would have been helpful and less humiliating , waited 10 mins while 2 staff served one person when we asked if there was seating available downstairs was told by same member of staff "No!" as we turned to leave the other member of staff serving said she'd check for us there was in fact 2 spare tables, the tables hadn't been sanitised between customers crumbs and a dirty knife left on the table our drinks were brought to us still no cleaning of the table staff left before we could ask , toilets and wash hand basin grubby toilet paper on the floor no paper towels available and a less than efficient hand dryer, not good at anytime let alone in the midst...
