I wasn't able to strictly review the George Vaults interior, because I wasn't able to actually get inside. However, I thought it would be useful for other prospective clientèle to hear about my recent experience before deciding to visit.
After a very enjoyable evening at a Billy Ocean concert in the castle grounds, we decided to go to a pub for a drink. As we went to enter the George Vaults, we were told we couldn't come in. Presumably this was because some of us had trainers on, but the reason for not permitting us entry wasn't explained.
I wanted to enquire what the reason was to see if we would have any issues gaining entry to other pubs. On questioning one of the door staff, he quickly became angry, verbally aggressive and physically pushed me away. I was pretty shocked at this response, particularly as I hadn't behaved in that manner towards him. I certainly hadn't argued or disagreed, and even explained that I didn't actually want to come in! I was simply interested to know what the entry requirements were. To be honest, I don't have a problem with door staff enforcing a dress code entry policy, and would have been happy with a response along the lines of "Sorry Gents, no trainers tonight. Try the pub down the road, and enjoy your evening". However I don't think there is any excuse for the manner in which he behaved towards me.
So, we never made it into the George Vaults and finished what was a lovely evening on a low note. From others reviews, it sounds like the place is nice inside and does good food; it's just a shame that the door staff don't hold the same values as the rest of the establishment and feel it is acceptable to bully perfectly reasonable members of the public. Needless to say, that the last time I...
Read moreSo disappointed. Was attended a private party in the downstairs room of the venue. The bar staff were fantastic and the venue itself was great.
However. The party was paid until 1am and the dj stopped early at around 12:50am. Then 3 different bouncers made their way in to the room and horribly aggressively began to clear the room. The hosts had brought their own decorations - glass candles, photo boards and we were aggressively told to âget outâ by the bouncers even though we were just collecting up the candle holders and accessories.
One of the bouncers, after being incredibly aggressive to party guests asking them to leave immediately, also proceeded to decide that another member of the party had offended him and practically assaulted him out of the fire escape when he was already leaving.
In addition to this I was shoved to the wall by another bouncer on the stairs as he excitedly, with a smile on his face wanted to âfind the trouble.â
I do not write this review lightly and we had been warned about the level of aggression from the security staff before we booked this party but as we have been to the venue before and we were a private party - we thought this wouldnât be a problem. We were a family party with NO issues whatsoever until the security staff came in to the private room at 12:55 am to clear us out, giving us no time to bring the decorations that we had been given permission to use.
It was actually quite scary not only to see the level of aggression shown by the security staff but also the joy in which they laughed with one another, wanting to âkick him out.â
After spending a LOT of money and being a quiet, family party with no trouble whatsoever, the way we were asked to leave was disgraceful and if Iâm honest...
Read moreHugely disappointed. Day before our visit I e mailed them to ask for something special for my partnerâŚ.IGNORED! We arrived and were put on a table with 6-8 incredibly noisy and selfish boorish males standing very close to our table, making deafening conversation, as I was about to ask for us to be moved, about 5 minutes after we arrived they were moved to their table. We ordered our Sunday roasts, both asked for lamb. When the food arrived, my lamb had a significant serving of cartilage and a bit of fat. Some of the meat was nicely cooked, mixed in with some grey dry meat. The potatoes and carrots were very nice, the other vegetables were a mix of very dark very bitter leaves and some ânormalâ and ok cabbage. It was the very first time I have ever experienced a Yorkshire that was so crisp it was crumbly! We looked at the dessert menu and were a bit uninspired we were weighing up our decision when we heard the tie less man who appeared to be in charge talking loudly near our table, we could her every word he was saying, he was talking to a female about his sinus problems and gave a very detailed, blow by blow description of his technique for sinus washouts, in details that we REALLY didnât need to hear during our meal. The one event alone encouraged us to go elsewhere for dessert. Not a pleasant nor...
