One of the most hyped Indo - Sri Lankan eateries in Cardiff. Heads up, it is absolutely amazing when it comes to certain dishes which lived up to their expectations , while some others were pretty awful.
Will rate based on the items we ordered
Starters: Ulunthu vadai - Around 2.5£ for 2 nos - was decent Samosa - tasted awful
Veg: Cheese chilli dosa - has a truck load of chilli and hardly any cheese (photo of the chilly leftover of the dish attached) Paneer masala dosa - has an overload of paneer and not really masala in it
Non veg: Dolphin Koththu Porotta (Chicken) - Amazing - huge quantity, with a good mix of Chicken, milk, Porotta, green chillies and capsicums. This was amazing Biriyani - This was amazing too, and had a good quantity Rose Milk Sarbath - was good
From this experience, we felt the Non vegetarian dishes are their best picks, and some items are not even worth trying.
We also felt the place was understaffed and non manageable by the only person who has to manage all the tables with such a good crowd dining in. We spotted a couple of instances of where they messed up the orders too.
Nevertheless, it’s a good place to hangout, and has the space to seat big groups. The place is also well decorated and has a good ambiance. The menu is also huge with a lot of items, vegetarian as well as non vegetarian, and drinks too. Some items especially in their desi beverages menu - are however, unavailable. The location isn’t far from the city centre, which is probably another reason why it’s different from other Indian eateries which all are located in the city centre/ city road. The price that it’s not very pricey compared to many other desi places works in their favour.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Menu options ⭐️⭐️⭐️ vegetarian food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Non vegetarian food ⭐️⭐️⭐️ customer service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Value for money
Verdict: A good hangout place, but one has to do homework on the items that they should and shouldn’t order to have a...
Read moreWe visited Curry Hut a few days ago and ordered the Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Devilled. As expected, the Chicken Devilled was served first, being a starter. We've dined here a few times before and generally enjoyed the food.
However, this time was different. My husband took a bite of the Chicken Devilled and immediately noticed a sour, unpleasant taste — it seemed like the chicken was spoiled. We raised our concern with a staff member at the front, but the response we received was disappointing. The lady we spoke to raised her voice at us, even though I kept my tone calm and quiet out of respect for other diners.
She initially refused to cancel the dish and wouldn’t even taste it when we asked her to. After some back and forth, she eventually took the dish back to the kitchen and later returned to tell us that the food was "still in good condition." We know what Chicken Devilled is supposed to taste like, and we were certain something was wrong.
Eventually, she agreed to remove the item from the bill but made it clear it was a one-time exception. What concerned me most was when she said, “We usually cancel orders if it's rotten” — which raises serious concerns about their food safety practices. That statement implied they are aware of serving spoiled food and only act if customers notice and complain. We did eat the Chicken Fried Rice, which tasted okay, but unfortunately, both of us experienced diarrhea later that night. This experience has left us very...
Read moreThe most impolite manager I have ever come across. Firstly, all of the positive reviews that are under the review section of Curry Hut, are because they have been obliged to, in return for a ‘FREE MEAL’. So do not take them seriously. Have been to this place twice and have had the most disappointing experience. Being a Sri Lankan, we expect more hospitality. To start off with, the manager doesn’t know how to take ‘reservations'. When customers come into the restaurant, he would rudely chase them away from their table. This happened to me and my friends and at least 5 other groups of people while we were waiting for the food. There’s simply no Reservation procedure, We were only worried about the people coming in being shouted at. The next thing, he shouts at his waiting staff, in front of customers. When I wanted to make a complaint to the manager, I find out that HE is the manager. I thought he was mentally Ill. So basically, there was no one to make a complaint to.! Apart from that unacceptable behaviour, the chef should be complimented for his great food here, worth the money, amazing portions, and great Sri Lankan/Indian food. But never will I ever go there, or recommend it to anyone because of the staff and the person running the show and lack of hospitality. Absolutely...
